Review: I LOVE MY "SCHBOOPIE"!! - I was really skeptical about this blade until I saw PreparedMind101's review of it on YouTube. SO I decided to get one and see for myself. I can always use a good machete, right? And there were lots of good reviews on it, so why not? WOW, am I one HAPPY CAMPER! (Literally). I already have an SCHF9 and then saw the PM101 review of the SCHF42. Both of those blades had blown me away and the fact that they both complimented each other so well for my needs, I thought, "What else could I possibly want if I was stranded and had to build a shelter for myself or my family?" That was when I realized that as good as the F9 and F42 were, they were not the best blades for chopping really thick pieces of wood, for a raft or a substantial, long lasting shelter. But I wanted something not as bulky or heavy as an axe. I was even looking at a Smatchet like Matt Graham carries, but the F9 could already fill that mold for the most part. Then, I get a large box from desertcart much sooner than I expected and inside... This SCHBOLO goes above and beyond what a machete, or hatchet can do and it does it well. The handle feels awesome. Comfortable and grippy with no hot spots. I would have no problem digging out a canoe or bashing tent stakes with the flat of this monster blade. It's big, it's heavy, (but not bulky or difficult to wield) and it's tough. The weight does all the work so it's much better than a typical machete. Perfectly suited to the chopping and slashing I need it for. And SHARP! Keeps an edge very well so far. It sliced paper right out of the box and for some reason, the front part of the blade is magnetic! Great for picking up nails, etc... and then pounding them in with the flat of the blade if I have nothing else at hand. I would have absolutely no problem getting to day 21 on "Naked & Afraid" with this puppy, (but I won't subject you to the horror of that vision.) This is one helluva CHOPPER that's for sure. No vibration, or bending. If you want a machete on steroids, then this is exactly what you need. Now, the sheath... I've seen a lot of bad talk about it and I can't speak for earlier issues of this blade, but mine came not only with the long strap, but it also has two loops on the back that have what I assume are leg straps with quick release buckles. These can also be used to attach to your pack. Also included are the diamond sharpener and Ferro rod. The Ferro rod also now has a 90 degree piece of thick steel attached for scraping sparks and it works great. Yes, the sheath is nylon but it seems to be well made and should last at least long enough for me to get a kydex system made for it. The swivel clips holding the strap onto the sheath will probably fail quickly, but a few loops of paracord should take care of that. It's not the best sheath but it is far from the worst, especially compared with the crappy sheaths you get with machetes. The sharpener and Ferro rod make up for any shortcomings as far as I'm concerned. You can keep the SCHBOLO sharp, cut a bunch of stuff down and then set it on fire to dispose of it in one handy package. Like I said... this blade rocks! WHAT ELSE could you possibly need? I will be adding to this review if anything comes up, so check back down the road. Oh, and I have decided to name her "SCHBOOPIE" as I think another Family Guy fan might have named theirs also. For my hard earned money, Schrade has become THE BEST VALUE under $50 in the survival/woodcraft field today. BUY IT! You will love it! "SCHBOOPIE!"
Review: Right On the Money!! - If this is Schrade's answer to Kershaw's Camp Knives (I own them too), they got it right-on-the-money. Out-of-the-box, it feels hefty/beefy with a slight front-end bias perfectly suited for chopping. Gripping the bolo makes you feel this thing was designed for serious business! Where else can you get a hefty stainless steel blade and perfectly-shaped grip for under $50 bucks? Again, I'm a big fan of practical grips and Schrade's soft-rubber, kraton-like grip and pinky-retaining design does not disappoint. It immediately gives the user confidence that this baby won't slip out of one's hand during aggressive/self-defensive chopping/slashing/piercing. That's my biggest beef with the Condors of similar theme(I own those too), great blade designs but very slippery grips. But Schrade went one-up on the Kershaw's by providing a stainless blade that will resist rusting while not having any coating to eventually rub off. Overall, it's a great chopper with tried-n-true parang design and superb grip. I would not hesitate to take this bolo out in the jungles of South America! The carrying/sheath system is kinda cool too but here's the surprise bonus....it also comes with a sharpener and fire-starting tool inside of an integral carry pouch built in to the sheath, all for under $50-bucks! Thank You Schrade, for a superb, well-thought out, extreme condition survival tool at an incredible price point!!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Where is it made from?**
A: I agree with the other commenters' notes. 3CR13 is China's equivalent of USA's 420-J2 stainless steel. It has 0.35% carbon (the "3") and 13.5% chromium (the "CR13"). With a little added Mn, Ni, and Mo it is a tough and decent stainless steel, a little at the soft end, but that is typical for chopping blades for resistance to chipping and shattering. It may dull quicker than higher-carbon harder knife steels, but again, this is to prevent breakage and permit easier sharpening. The units I have seen are also Titanium coated for added strength and corrosion resistance. I believe the sheath and fire starter alone are worth the $50 price - the knife is "free" and quite good for general use, unbeatable for the price. The rubbery-plastic handle does NOT have a caustic odor like many rubber products from China, so that is also a plus. Regards.

**Q: what is the weight of just the knife?**
A: On my scales it is 1 pound and about 10 ounces.

**Q: how thick is the blade?**
A: 150 thousandths (5/32)

**Q: How long is the blade and what is the overall length?**
A: Titanium Finish 3Cr13 Stainless Steel Blade
Ergonomic Safe-T-Grip Handle with Lanyard Hole, Shoulder Carry Sheath with Removable Storage Pouch
Extra Large Ferro Rod and Sharpening Stone
Blade Length: 14.0 inch (35.5 cm) Handle Length: 7.3 inch (18.5 cm)
Overall Length: 20.2 inch (51.2 cm) Weight: 1.69 pounds

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ EXCELLENT MACHETE!
*by S***N on November 5, 2013*

EXCELLENT DESIGN, COMFORTABLE TO USE, WELL CONSTRUCTED, VERY SHARP. THE DESIGN IS ACTUALLY A BARONG BLADE WITH @ 20 DEGREE ANGLE IN THE HANDLE. THIS MAKES IT HANDLE LIKE A KUKRI WITH THE WEIGHT FORWARD EFFICIENCY OF A BOLO. THE BLADE SHAPE IS USEFUL FOR MANY PURPOSES AND IS EASY TO SHARPEN. THE BLADE IS THICKER THAN COMMON MACHETES AND MAKES IT HEAVIER BUT THIS MAKES FOR BETTER CHOPPING ACTION. THE HANDLE IS MOLDED OVER A FULL TANG AND HAS GOOD GRIP. THE METAL USED IS UNUSUAL FOR A MACHETE BLADE BUT A QUICK LOOKUP OF THE MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS INDICATE IT TO BE A GOOD CHOICE OF STAINLESS FOR THIS PURPOSE. THE SHEATH IS INTERESTING AND USABLE, I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SEEN A BELT CARRY OPTION. THERE IS ALSO INCLUDED A DIAMOND SHARPENER AND FIRE STEEL, ALWAYS A PLUS AND STORED EASILY IN THE SHEATH. WELL WORTH THE PRICE AND I WOULD PURCHASE AGAIN SHOULD THE NEED ARISE.
