Raggedy Ann in Cookie Land - Illustrated by Johnny Gruelle Kindle Edition

There are many editions of the Raggedy Ann books, and this one by Simon and Schuster "Books for Young Readers" is excellent. It has all of the wonderful pictures. The text is very legible. And the story is great. My wife has memories of this book being read to her as a child and still remembers being frightened by Hookie-the-Goblin and the Hungry Howloon. The tension builds thoughout the story as Hookie pursues the Raggedies and their friends, the Cookie people, but all turns out well in the end. Still, it may be best for children 5 and above.Remember, only buy editions which have the colored pictures by Johnny Gruelle and large type. Avoid any editions published by Milk Press of New York City. Milk Press produces versions with no pictures and type that is so small that it is difficult to read. Avoid them at all cost.

I clearly remember my parents reading this to me when I was very, very young, and I am thrilled now to be reading this to my own children as their very first chapter book. The characters are classic and lovable, and while the language may seem a bit outdated I love it! (And what a wonderful gift, to teach my children that people can speak differently than we do.) My son and daughter both (3-years-old) hang on every word and are excited to hear the next chapter each night. They're also able to follow the story (even with minimal pictures), predict what they think will happen next, and summarize what's happened so far. Perfect pre-literacy skills! It's simple and wonderful and I hope my kids will have the same wonderful memories of this book that I do.

These stories are timeless! illustrations are fantastic! Loved reading the happy stories to my 6 year old granddaughter! They were my favorite when I was her age!

My favorite book when my father used to read to us. Now a grandfather, I found this gem to read to my granddaughter. Hookie the Goblin was the foe and because of his shenanigans, I modeled my life after him...it worked out.

This is the book I used to check out of the library every time, when I was a little girl. I haven't seen it in over 40 years, yet when my copy came in the mail, I remembered all the lovely pictures in it! This takes me back to my childhood, when I thought Raggedy Andy was so brave. Little children will be as fascinated by the many color illustrations and the exciting, fantastic adventure, as I was so many years ago.

I read this book as a child. I recently bought Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy to give as Christmas gifts and had to find this book to give with them. I was glad to see it was still being published.

Newer copy of original story, same tale but presentation less vivid illustrations and presentation! Try to get older versions of the books.

I was so happy to get this old book. It was in great shape and I know my granddaughter will love the stories just as I did as a girl!
