Kinda small pieces
The stones or checker pieces are kinda small and very slick. The backgammon board is on the small side. If you are more familiar with playing on a larger board you may be disappointed with this size. I’m ok with this whole setup because I wanted a portable 3-way set. The overall quality is good. If you want a 3-in1 chess/checkers/backgammon set that is portable, self-storing, and nice looking this one will work.

Don’t let the bad reviews fool you
This is a very nice chess/game set. My daughter and I are beginners so this was a great same set.The one thing I’m not keen on is that the chess pieces are VERY light and knock over very easily, which makes playing tedious when you have to stand the pieces back up.I’m tempted to purchase heavier pieces but all in all, it’s a nice set for yourself or a gift

Nice Looking and Sturdy
This is a good quality product. The board is sturdy and so are all the pieces. I like the size of everything; not too small. My 5 and 7 year old pull it out all the time to play chess and checkers. There are about 4 bags for the various pieces that you have to lie flat in order to close the board up. I'm just worried they are going to lose the pieces for some of the other games they don't use because they have to remove everything to use the board. There isn't really an easy way around that.We slide the board back into the main box to store is because even though it closes with what feels like weak magnets, I feel like it's more secure in the box. Definitely a good board. I saw a similar one at Target without the backgammon that seemed good too.

Great quality for a hand crafted, wooden product. Very good value for money.
For the price I paid (~$24) this is a very good product. 3 games in one.I think the quality of the product is actually excellent for the money. Remember, this is a wooden product, with wooden pieces. I am astonished that it is ONLY $24. I think the pieces are just fine. The chess pieces aren't too light or unstable in my opinion.Anyone that is complaining about the quality either has some legitimate QC problems, or they are just whining. For $24 don't expect too much. I am more than happy and so is my 6 year old son who has just got into checkers (and now is also a chess fiend).

Functional board, Rough finish (mine had a chip), but overall great for the price.
I really like how it has all the pieces for being able to play 3 different games. It does have a piece of paper for instructions for the game.. but I consider it a tad useless since it's all words and it really doesn't describe where all the peices have to be placed on the board. I suppose you can look at the original box. I don't consider it a negative since once you know how to set it up, it's not an issue. The main improvment would be to clean up the finish. The finishing is rough. Some parts need more sanding, ie internal to the backgammon cups they have a lot of splinters, hence need sanding down to a smooth finish. The handle openning is also a bit rough. Pieces looked fine for the price. I plan to pull out the sandpaper and clean it up.The enclosure for all the part will fit the pieces, but you have to make sure they are relatively flat or else it won't close. It has weak magnetic clasps but it will do it's job if you don't drop it.I wish the pieces were magnetic, but knowing that his was wood, its not an issue. I find that if it were magnetized, it would be easier to use if we were in a moving vehicle, but in my case a more stable table with no kids bumping into it.Mine also had a chip in the wood near the handle. Considering the price I don't consider it a big deal, but I wish it wasn't there since I would notice it every time I use it.

The photo is nicer than the real thing
...the chessboard and backgammon veneer work seem to have been machine made as a unit from a company that makes them by robot...they're nice and perfectly made, though there isn't enough contrast in the wood colors to differentiate the backgammon triangles for counting your move. By contrast the pale wood frame, hinges, magnetic closures, dice cups and velvet lining were done by another wood working shop. Those are downright shoddy. There are blobs of glue on the playing surface, the hinge screws stick up and were put in at an angle, the velvet isn't tucked into the corners and makes a round "race track" of the backgammon boards and is coming loose. The oval cutout handles are so coarse and splintery that they could cut your skin; I had to take sandpaper to them. The playing pieces are nice. The dice are tiny plastic things that hardly fit with the quality of the playing pieces. Because the plywood playing surface is so thin, it's like the head of a drum and amplifies the sound of dice being thrown, so it's pretty noisy. On the backgammon side, there's no secure place to bear off so you have to make a pile beside the board. Finally, keep in mind that this is pretty cheap for woodworking and overall is pretty nice for the cost. Just don't expect that you're getting a museum piece just because they show off their nicest work for their marketing photo.
