Abatron WoodEpox Kit - 12 oz - 2-Part Structural Epoxy Adhesive Filler - Wood Filler Putty

After driving myself nuts reading reviews and comparing so many products, I settled on this Abatron WoodEpox. I will filling holes and other voids from rotted wood in an outdoor column and the base. I first used another company's product to harden or petrify the wood (PC-Woody Wood Petrifier) then used Abatron Wood Epox to fill the holes. The package is very light, weighs almost nothing. The product is not wet at all (not like the peanut butter consistency I was expecting)....rather dry actually...to the point where the product with a couple of firm taps, fell out of the container exactly in the shape of the container - both parts A and B. This seemed strange, but actually worked out perfectly. Wearing gloves, I just kneaded both parts together by hand. It is sort of like the consistency of chewed chewing gum or a dry-ish bread dough. Again, this worked out perfectly for pressing into holes and forming to conform to other areas and contours - it won't run or droop - stays exactly where you put it. The other great part is that you have a generous working time of at least 20 minutes, which takes a lot of stress out of the process. Also, if you dip your fingers into isopropyl alcohol you can smooth the product out nicely, reducing the amount of sanding once hardened. Next day this product had hardened very nicely.

I have used all sorts of materials for filling and patching rotted or damaged wood. This stuff is the best I have used. It is easy to mix, doesn't kill half my brain cells from heavy fumes and finishes off nicely with sanding and paint. My initial impression when I first handled it was that it was too light and fluffy to make substantial repairs. It also seemed like it couldn't possibly bond to the wood very well. Once dried though it was solidly bonded and hard but sandable. Once painted you wouldn't know there is a repair. Adding the two part LiquidWood to the project makes it even better. You can use that to consolidate spongy wood and increase the ability for the filler to bond. Add a tiny bit of the liquid to the filler to thin it for a more spreadable consistency. Overall this is a great system for wood repair.

Good product although expensive. Works easily, stays where you put it, does not droop, smooths with wet hand or tools, hardens solid, have not tried to sand yet.

works well. easy to mix. working time long enough to get the job done. USE VINYL GLOVES. tends to get "sticky" as it is used. lightly moistening gloves (spit) helps. had damage on a header board behind fascia board. much easier to build up the rotted areas than to cut out and replace the header. rot depth about 3/4 inch on nastiest place. prep the board. remove rot, seal with liquid epoxy.

I have been using Abatron WoodEpox for almost 30 years now. Yes they have been around for quite awhile. It is invaluable in keeping your historic home historic and the same as it was. It can also save you a ton of money by simply restoring a small section of rotted or missing wood around door jambs or window sills rather than replacing the entire window at a huge cost's which is not an option with old historic homes like my Victorian. I just recently restored my gingerbread porch and again Abatron's products were to the rescue and saved me many hassle's in bringing the old wood carvings back to life. It is an amazing product that everyone who lives in an aging home should have in their toolbox. As an add on to this comment I would like to stress to first time users of this product to buy the kit that contains both the liquid epoxy and the wood epoxy as both truly are needed for fine smoothing of the product when applying with a putty knife. You can use just the wood compound by itself and most times for large gaps in wood it will hold and work great but the liquid part of this stuff is the magic which gets real tacky or sticky and bonds both the original wood and the newly added Abatron wood compound for a super permanent bond. I always add enough of the liquid to the wood compound to make it more runny like a stiff pancake batter. This will allow you to force the stuff into small cracks and moderate gaps easily. Much larger missing wood gaps I use stiffer mixes of liquid to compound ratio's and if it's really large then I insert 2 x 4's etc and compound to fill and replace entire missing sections of wood. Look folks this product like any is not 100 percent perfect but it's as close as it gets. Is it going to be as good as an unrotted board....of course not but it will replace and repair missing sections and give load bearing stability no matter what some folks say. As I said I have used this product on an 1836 Greek Revival and now an 1860's Victorian and nothing out there competes with it...;)

This product worked better on vertical surfaces than the bondo or powdered wood products I've used in the past. Had some porch posts to repair as well as a couple of railings and this product in conjunction with the liquid wood hardener works quite well. For the tops of the horizontal railings that had some shallow rot I used the epoxy putty mixed with some of the hardener and it was easier to spread and push into the wood surface. The product is expensive but if you're working on irreplaceable trim I think it's work the cost. I was surprised at how easy this sanded too. Hopefully the repairs will last indefinitely.

We have a staircase that connects the ground to an elevated deck, and although the deck is covered most of the staircase is not, which in the rainy South means rot is going to occur eventually. This product filled in gaps caused by removing rot and saved time, materials, and money by extending the life of the wood. This is super easy to use. Remove all the rotted bits with a chisel and a brush, then apply a hardener then this will push into the void filling it completely, then after it dries sand it then finish with paint and you’re good as new.

I applied this product to the bottom of a solid door which had some rotten wood which I had removed and put this product in the gap where the bad wood was removed. While it did harden it remains chalky and unusable for me to put screws into it to hold the door's lower metal insulation plate. I gave it weeks to harden and then finally ordered a similar product from Amazon called P.C.Woody. I just did a test batch with it and it is hardening way better than this product and it will be able to handle screws and not crumble like this product does. Now I am faced with having to throw away this inferior product and start over again replacing it with the P.C.Woody product. Unfortunately I waited too long to return it. I am out some forty plus dollars and will never recommend this product to anyone.

This product is significantly superior and cheaper than anything available in Australia. Application is easier, especially when replacing missing wood. It sets solid. It sands super smooth. It's paintable after priming No wonder I can't find it here on shelves.

In two boxes is a paste which I’ve melted in my hands wearing first gloves. It’s ready in two minutes but to shape it was better after another 10 minutes. The filler was very good for me because doesn’t dry in seconds so I’ve had a time to put it everywhere where I needed and even I could move from one place where I used it too much to another hole where I didn’t have enough of filler. So far I’m happy with the product but we can see in a year 😁
