Excellent product! Fast Shipping! Great Service!
I was in a desperate situation with a server I manage and needed assistance ASAP, or we risked losing critical data. The company saved the day, shipping the disk immediately and providing excellent customer service. Our system is back up and running and we couldn't be happier with this purchase. Thanks!

Bad Drive Great Customer Support!
Had to repair disk errors after a couple months of use when the drive suddenly became inaccessible on my network server for no obvious reason. Not too happy about that. But still working after a disk scan and repair (and being backed up just in case). I don't like feeling unconfident about large disks with lots of data.Update 6/1/18: Problem happened again. More bad sectors (growth errors) found. I'm trying to return it but Amazon says return expired a month after purchase. I tried to RMA via HGST but S/N came up not eligible. What the heck is happening here. I contacted the seller to see if the could help with a replacement or return. Really Amazon?!?Update 6/2/18: Got a hold of Amazon rep via online chat (buried but it exists) and they made an exception to their return policy and will refund the drive. Kudos to Amazon Customer Support! NewTronic Systems also sent me an email willing to fully refund. Great customer support again! Apart from having to restore the data with a backup, I'm happy but the drive still gets the lowest rating possible for failing.

First impressions are good, let's see the lifespan...
Initial impressions are one thing, we'll see how longevity is. The write speed is crazy fast! I have all SSDs in my system aside from this (using it as an archival/backup disk 4TB) and it keeps up pretty well. The only thing I found weird was that the disk had a bunch of volumes/partitions on it when I put it in. Windows showed it as 3 drives. I had to do some work to kill / merge all the volumes and get it all set up properly. I worry that's a sign this was a refurbished drive being sold as new.Anyway, we'll see how it holds up, I'll drop another review in a few months.

Good cheap storage for the home lab if you know what you're doing.
Received two 4TB HGSTHUS726040AL4210. Both manufactured in 2015. My SAS controller (LSI 9211-8i) was not able to initialize the disks in Windows disk management with the 4kn block size. After formatting with a 512 byte block size, the drives initialize in windows with a 3.63 TB capacity. SMART data shows about 2.5 years of power-on time. Good cheap storage for the home lab if you know what you're doing.

SMART shows the drive as new and I was able ...
Came same day and works exactly as described. SMART shows the drive as new and I was able to rebuild my 4 drive RAID 6 in about a day. No issues so far, quiet and cool.

Defective upon receipt....Metal on metal grinding when power applied. See video...
The media could not be loaded. Ordered the 8TB HUH728080ALE600 from NEWTRONIC SYSTEMS. Sure am glad that I promptly tested it. When I first put it into my Synology NAS, I thought I had a fan going out. Then, after plugging in the drive to an external SATA power/data connector, I quickly realized that the drive itself was making a grinding noise as it attempted to spin up several times. Yes, GRINDING. In all of my days as an IT Professional (25+ years), I've never come across a drive that was in such bad shape as to make this grinding noise. I'll try to upload a video so you can see/hear it for yourself.....

Great drive in general - I got a bit of a lemon
This drive has excellent performance characteristics, a stellar reputation for reliability, good size cache and is a great value. The problem is that the drive I ordered that came from Ocean Store (via Amazon) had a horrible vibration to it. Though it appeared functional, knowing full well how drives work inside, this can't be good for its long term health. So, I'm sending it back. This is not apparently something that is characteristic of all of these HGST drives so apparently I just got a bad one. I have no idea if this was just bad luck on my part or if this drive has a sorted history via Ocean Store (reconditioned?, previous return?). It was an unusually good price at $149 which makes one wonder. Did I get what I paid for? Anyway, I'm sending this one back and will perhaps look for another place to buy it.

The Drive works, this is more about the vendor.
So after about a year and a half the drive failed. I called HGST for a warranty replacement. They told me that the drive was an OEM drive, and I would have to contact the reseller. I thought I was out of luck, but contacted SERVERPARTDEALS. They got my information, sent me an RMA and they are taking care of it. I would definitely order from SERVERPARTDEALS again.
