Good, sweet Medjools
Being from a culture that eats dates like water, it is hard to find good dates here in the states. These are not the worlds't best dates like the ones in the Middle East. But these dates are close to one of the best batch of good quality dates one can find. They taste delicious, and are big. This is how Medjool dates should be. I like that they are grown and packaged here in the USA instead of Israel where other dates are from. I wanted to support by buying a good but decent priced pack. Some of the reviews say the dates came with discoloration or other discrepancies. But to explain for people who don't eat dates that much, natural dates will have crystallization and because of the amount of sugar in a date (natural good-for-you sugar) the date skin might have these discolorations, crystals or white "color" specks. If you look at the pictures, that is exactly how they arrived. They arrived on time and although they didn't look the best, it is normal for them to have been squished in delivery. They do have pits but the size of the pits are smaller than the actual date, so you wont necessarily bite down on it, unless you bite down hard. They are very, very sweet and I have had 6 or 7 in one sitting with tea. But then again, if you don't come from a background where you eat dates or can only stomach a few, then you might eat a few pieces. However, I ordered one or two other batches of Medjool dates from other companies and they were just way too sweet and made me feel sick. So, just dont get fooled by dates that look picturesque. Because natural dates grown in Middle Eastern/ Arab countries do not look like they were photo-shopped. May 2017 I wanted to chime in about some reviews finding black mold (the actual substance name) in some of the dates. This, while naturally happens to some dates, is actually a mold. So the date should be thrown out. It happens because of too much moisture in the dates. Some bags don't have any...and others, apparently do. Which is why some reviews like mine were luckily good bags and good reviews and others, unfortunately not so much so. So, to avoid being alarmed, I wanted to just give a suggestion to cut the date open before you eat it (if that makes you feel better) to avoid eating any possibly fuzzy black mold. While it sounds crazy to have to worry about rotten mold in your food, I have to remind you that this is normal in anything you eat. Food or organic food for that matter, will always have the possibility of growing fungus etc. And to be fair, yes the company should look at their batches and be more observant, but I have had dates from other reputable places that also (when packaged) had one or two moldy dates I bit into. Once I was pregnant. Didn't do any harm. It won't kill you necessarily but it is mold. So, yes, you DON'T want to eat that. Just keep in mind, It is a common occurrence in dates so it isn't very alarming to some of us. Gross, yes. Throw it out, yes. But not panic-worthy. Even whole foods quality dates have potential to have this issue. Especially when companies dont use preservatives to prevent this sort of stuff. I suggest if you WANT to buy this brand, then go ahead and order the 1 lb bag. I did that and figured the large amount of dates in the larger packs might be more prone to "the possibility" of black mold since they are packaged differently and hence, more moisture which leads to this horrid discovery. And secondly, should you find any bad dates (no pun intended)...just trash them. Tell Amazon afterwards. Usually they will give you a partial refund, or a discount or at the very least, keep knowledge and if many complaints are given, they will remove the product. This is why I shop at Amazon and why I write reviews and update like this one. Because sometimes a product is good but it can't always be perfect. May you all find good dates. *My original review stays the same as I had one of the good bags.

Best dates I've ever had!
These dates are by far the best I've ever had. They're very soft and very sweet; they taste kind of like caramel. Other dates I've eaten don't compare; hard, dry, old. These are fresh and moist; they do dry out a bit after a few months, but they'll still be good, and they probably won't sit around that long if you use them as much as do! I mostly use them to make healthy desserts and fruit/nut balls. I can't eat wheat; so I mix these with nuts and flavorings like cacao, vanilla, and spices in a food processor to make raw brownies and crusts for pies. Another thing I like to do with them is pit them and stuff them with nut butter; almond and peanut are my favorites, maybe throw a couple chocolate chips in there too. I can only eat one of those at a time, they're very rich. This is my first time purchasing them here myself, but a family member bought them here previously, and since I keep eating them all I thought I should start buying them myself. They're well worth the expense!

Had to stop buying when I learned where it’s sourced, afraid it would explode
I bought these to replace my previous brand of dates, which were very good but began to keep sending dates as hard as rocks, even in Nov after California harvest time. I eat 1 or 2 dates every morning as part of my plant-based/raw nut breakfast, for almost 15 yrs now, so I’ve eaten lots of dates, and my taste sense is highly sensitive to foods due to high number of taste buds(yes, the number of taste buds in people do vary, and if you can eat very hot peppers with no problem, you don’t have very many). When I opened this bag, it smelled exactly like prunes, not dates, and I thought an error had been made and checked the packaging. These taste like cross between prunes and dates, and are the least sweet of any medjool dates I have ever tasted. But they were soft and just a bit chewy so for that and the reclosable packaging I give them 2 stars. I doubt I will buy again.

Will buy only pitted from now on
After spending a bunch of money on dental implants, I was warned by a friend never to eat whole almonds or dates unless they were pitted. She herself broke a tooth and wanted to prevent the same from happening to me. Last week I ate a date and unexpectedly hit the pit with my central lower tooth. Heard a nasty noise and thought I had broken my tooth. The tooth didn't break but it was close. Love dates, but from now on will only buy pitted ones. It's a shame because these dates are really tasty.

Juicy, Fresh Dates—Perfect Even from the Fridge!
These dates are incredibly fresh and have a wonderfully ‘meaty’ texture. From what I read, dates is a healthy choice with no added sugar, which I really appreciate. Even when stored in the fridge, they maintain their juicy texture, unlike other brands that tend to dry out. I’m very impressed with the quality and highly recommend them!
