Leviton VPI06-1LZ, Vizia + Digital 600W Incandescent Dimmer, Single Pole and 3-Way, White/Ivory/Light Almond

I bought one of these and installed it on a lamp outlet when I had an apartment and really liked it. So, when I bought a house, I replaced all the worn-looking dimmers and several switches with these.I still eye the Lutron Maestro every now and then, but I still think this is the best dimmer out there, and now that I've used this model more thoroughly, here are my two complaints:- When wiring this up with a remote unit for a 3- or more-way application, a delay seems to be introduced into the light level indicator in both the head unit and the remotes. If you're using just a single dimmer for a light, when you press the up or down button, the light and the indicator on the dimmer will respond instantly. If you introduce a remote into the mix, the indicator on the dimmer and remotes will take a second to respond. All my outside lights are on these dimmers, and I like to keep them at a certain level when we go to sleep, which I gauge with the dimmer indicator. When the dimmer indicator lags behind your button presses by a second, it makes this frustrating.- I sometimes miss the knob-style dimmers that are instant. I get impatient holding down the up or down buttons and waiting for the light level to raise or lower to where I want it to be. I want my interaction with light switches to last no more than a second.

I saw this dimmer because we had the age old problem of turning the lights on somewhere other than the dimmer, on a 3 or 4 way circuit and having the dimmer all the way down and not getting any light.This dimmer marries with a remote unit that Leviton makes thus allowing you to dim the light from anywhere there is a switch. So if you are upstairs or down stairs you have full control.I have since purchased additional ones from Amazon and am replacing all th eold dimmers in the house. You can program the fade time so you can leave a room with the light on and 30 seconds later the lights will go off. Additionallly you can progrow how quickly they turn on. So that you save your light bulbs that usually pop when first turned on because of the surges.They work great on single pole circuits also.Highly recommend these to anyone.

The switch seems to be well built and although it is toggle-at-the-bottom, it has been easy enough to get used to. I would prefer the on=top/off=bottom style, but considering I'm replacing old Insteon switches that were this way that rarely register the tap, I'm fine with the toggle style given the build quality. These match the Z-Wave Vizia RF+ switches which is nice as you can use these where you don't need automation control.

I've installed a number of these at my house and am very impressed by the quality and operation of the dimmer. After installing the first one I actually have been replacing all my current dimmers with these. The soft on and off should increase bulb life tremendously and the output is very smooth throughout the dimming range, the best I've found so far.One word of caution which has already been mentioned in some of the other reviews, the dimmer when used in a 3 way setup must be used with a matching slave switch. It will not work with a generic 3 way switch.

I didn't bother reading the reviews and after purchasing and installing realized that it only works with the same switch for the other location. Both arrived quickly but were missing the additional trim colors. It was white so not a big deal but if you need almond or ivory, id make sure these are included before purchasing.

This dimmer requires that the load being dimmed use at least 50 watts of power. And if you hit that 50W but don't go that far over it, the dimming capability is limited. So this dimmer can not be used to control LED or CFL lighting unless you are controlling a group of at least 3-4 lights (in most cases). Given that most incandescent bulbs are being phased out and you will be using mostly LEDs in the near future I don't think many people will want to go with this line. Leviton does offer some LED / CFL capable switches but not in this line.

Easy installation, for someone with a little electrical knowledge. Instructions were very clear. Features are great. Decent price, they were the cheapest fade on/off switches I could find... but in my opinion they are still too expensive. I installed these in our basement which I was setting up to be a theater. Fade on/off, 3-way capable, and dimmable were the key features for me. Adjustment of fade times and other settings was straight forward using the included directions.

This switch presents a very good look in the room I put them in.The only negative I have observed is that the metal surrounding the switch becomes hot to the touch while the lights are on.

Easy to install in existing construction because is not as deep as most dimmers. Works well with my LEDs.
