Bought one for my home because I have this chair at my office and loved it so much. Highly durable with an excellent reclining system that can be tensioned for lumbar support without having to lock it upright. The reclining will still squeak a little when tensioned since it uses friction, but if you lock it upright or release tension it will be completely quiet. Assembly is also incredibly easy, don't bother paying someone to do it for you, it's literally just peg-to-hole and done. Three pieces.

Purchased open box return which arrived very fast, most likely direct from previous return customer. Chair arrived with back rest damage, something heavy landed on top of box and separated pad from back rest. Back rest had bend and dent but I was able to make a full repair, not sure if others could though. Chair works 100% like new except for a dent and couple bent areas in back rest that you do not feel when sitting on. I am 6’ and 240lbs and chair is great, would of liked an option to attach a head rest but I’ll be ok. It’s a great unassuming office chair that doesn’t get the looks of others so I am glad I didn’t pay the full price and to be honest, now that I have been using it for a couple of weeks, my mind has changed and I wouldn’t have minded paying full price now either. It’s a great work chair. Seat is very comfortable, back is comfortable, overall well built chair. I overly scrutinize and critique everything and the only complaint I have is that there’s a slight bend to back rest from previous damage. Those taller than 6’ should probably look at Steelcase Gesture or Leap V2 as those have taller backrest and or head rest options but those chairs are a lot more money. I think this Amia chair has a more comfortable seat pad anyways and I can use this chair for 8 hours a day and have no pain or stiffness in my back or legs. I cannot say that about other chairs. I've had the chair since February (5 months) and can say it is the worst 600+ dollars I've ever spent. # The alleged lumbar support broke somewhere around 3-4 months and continually slides down. Couldn't figure out why I was developing lower back problems till i realized this was happening. It is some type of cheap plastic horizontal bar embedded between 2 layers of the chair back and it slides down about 2" with me sitting in the chair for 2-3 hours. I have to add something behind my back now to prevent the back issues it was causing. It wasn't great even when it was staying in place. # This is likely my fault that I missed something in reading the description on Amazon or the Steelcase site, but YOU CAN NOT ADJUST THE CHAIR BACK TO A POSITION COMFORTABLE FOR YOU! I've never had a chair without the feature to set the back to a position comfortable to me. You can lock it into a position that they decided is best (yeah for a tall man, as usual) or else the back moves forward and backward and you can only adjust resistance. # A selling point was that the seat slides forward or back to accommodate different thigh bone lengths. What they don't say is that moving this forward or back from the "norm" will have you sitting at a place on the chair seat that tilts your spine in the wrong direction. I think this would be equally uncomfortable for a tall person as it is for shorter. # The chair back is designed for a taller person (I am 4'11"). I bought this chair because ergonomic websites said it was a good choice for a short person--not true. if you are short the sides of the back curve forward where your shoulders and arms are making your shoulders and arms roll forward in inward...and you'll find yourself with horrendous posture and bad upper back pain # Very little cushioning in the seat. my sit bones start to hurt if i'm in the chair for very long # The chair arms are nice in that they move in many directions. but as others have noted, they don't stay in the position you want. you adjust yourself in the chair (as you would with any other office chair) and the arm slides out of the desired position. # Something I never thought I'd complain about, but the chair rolls WAY too easily. I have a chairmat since my desk is on carpet. All day the chair keeps rolling away from my desk just from the movement of my arms on the keyboard and mouse I hate to just throw away $600, but it is now costing me a lot more in chiropractic bills to fix all the issues it has caused, and I don't think for that much money I should have to be buying back pillows and lumbar cushions to make it not tortuous to sit in the chair. I had a $300 chair for 8 or 9 years and this was to replace it as the cushioning in the seat had finally broken down (it was tempurpaedic and lovely). this chair is a torture device and poorly made and more than twice the price. Lesson learned, never buy a chair based on online reviews claiming it is good.

The chair is great so far but I do think its only worth buying when it goes on sale and even then it is still pricey. Overall I really appreciate the adjustability and comfort of the arm rest and lumbar support. Once I found the optimal setup for the chair I started to enjoy using it more. It is very easy to assemble since all you have to do is place it on the base when you take it out of the box. Some reviews have said that the arm rests move too easily but I have not had this issue so far. I have had this chair only for about a month so I can't say anything about the durability of the chair. As for the issues with the chair I only have minor complaints. I think the lumbar support is a bit aggressive which is something to be aware of. The other issue I have is the price. I do not think this chair is worth around $1,000 when not on sale. I waited for it to go on sale and I still feel like the price was pushing it at $800. Long story short I like the chair, but I think its worth waiting for it to go on sale since the price seems higher than it should be.

I purchased this chair because we have them at work and they are good quality. I did opt to purchase one used, like new with mint condition as the description. The chair arrived damaged as if it had been dropped. Metal was bent that had to be corrected before the arms could be assembled. And even after that one arm is still a cm or two higher than the other. Obviously the seller’s QC is not what it should be since they consider this mint condition. I kept the chair but will never buy another unless it’s new. That said, the chair is comfortable.

This review compares the Steelcase Leap and Amia chairs. The Leap was my daily work chair for over 10 years. I even bought one for my wife around the same time, and she is still using it. The Steelcase brand is terrific. They last. In fact, both of the Leap chairs still look, feel and function like new! With the ability to work-from-home, I needed a chair for my home office and once again took the opportunity to research chairs. After hours of investigation, I decided to give the Steelcase Amia chair a try. All the reviews said that the seat was a bit softer than the Leap. My opinion is that the Amia has a more comfortable seat with slightly thicker padding. Also, the shape of the back of the seat to the lower part of the back of the chair to the lumbar support really cradle my butt and lower back. I feel like the chair supports my sitting position while NOT putting pressure on my tailbone. The adjustable arms and most of the functionality of the Amia chair are the same as the Leap. The only difference is the recline adjustments. The Leap allows you to set 'stops' in different degrees of recline where the Amia only locks in the fully upright position. For me, if I'm in the chair I am tasking and not reclining. There is however a recline tension knob on the Amia that, when maxed out, offers plenty of resistance to the reclining function. Is the recline function as nice as the Leap? No. But for me it was a non-issue. The Amia chair is hundreds of dollars less than the Leap. It is built just as well, and I expect it to last just as long. It's a Steelcase.

I've been using this office chair for several weeks now. Working from home and using a lousy office chair wasn't working for me and I didn't feel like spending thousands of dollars on the high-end ones that are out there. This chair is a good mid-range compromise. It's not soft on the seat, but it gives just enough to be comfortable to use for extended periods of time. If you like a seat that you sink into with lots of cushiness then this is not the chair for you. The back-stop is also tension adjustable to make it easier or harder to lean back based on your comfort level, but you can't fix the back-stop at a given position once you find a position you like. This is not a problem for me because I just crank up the tension to make leaning back more difficult, but no so much that it isn't possible to do. I like the adjustable seat slide, which is something I've never had in an office chair. The armrests are height and width adjustable as well. Being able to adjust the width of the armrests is a nice feature. The only possible negative to this chair would be that the cloth fabric may stain easily if you spill something on it like coffee or tea. I've managed not to do this yet, but the day will probably come. Be prepared with something to clean your spill quickly or live with the result. Overall, I am very happy with this chair and I would recommend it.
