Perfect EDC for the Anti-Elitist!
Amazing knife that is humble, simple, old fashioned, but extremely capable and easy to carry. Ridiculously thin and light for its blade profile. Not made of super steel but also costs less than $25 and can be sharpened on the bottom of a plate for crying out loud. Blade profile and carbon steel hones to a shaving sharp edge super easily. Fit and finish and factory edge may not be as good as your $500 Sebenza, but can be easily fixed in minutes with little effort. Cheap enough to beat on without worry and very, very durable. Those that understand the Douk-Douk and it’s role in pocket knife history and continued present day utility are in for a treat. In my humble opinion, this is the best and most interesting EDC out there under $25. Cuts like a straight razor, tough as nails, with an amazing legacy. Put your pretentious notions aside and just buy a Douk-Douk... you will be pleasantly surprised!

Rock the kasbah !!!
Douk Douk! This knife rocks the kasbah! This one of the toughest and most useful knives I have ever bought. I own a good number of quality, American made traditional folding knives for comparison. This knife is in my top 5 favorites for functionality, appearance, and flat out mojo. The knife has a very cool history - check it out. The knife is 4.25" closed and very slim - makes for a good sized knife that is easy to carry. The carbon steel blade can be sharpened to a razor edge. This is a slip joint knife, not a friction knife. The back spring is very strong - the blade snaps open with authority and stays in place. There is no play or wobble in the blade when open. The blade has a half stop for safe closing. This knife is very strong and durable despite its simplicity. The finish details of this knife may seem crude compared to typical production folding knives. But there is nothing lacking with respect to quality and function - this knife is fit for duty. The carbon steel does require a little extra attention to prevent rust. This not a negative, but something to be aware of if you've never owned a knife with carbon steel. This very good steel - its very strong and easy to sharpen. The blade will oxidize and show patina over time - that's just the simple beauty of this knife. This knife is a great tool, a cool conversation piece, and with care could be an heirloom. I believe Race Bannon would carry one of these.

Neat, but not practical for my use
I bought this knife along with three others of similar style, and unfortunately this is my least favorite. Out of the box, it is not particularly sharp, needing a quick run on my stones. The style is cool, the knife shape is unique, but the laser etch on the blade seems cheap and looks pixelated and not centered. It is sturdy, but is hard to open and close, which I imagine gets easier with use but for the time being closing it is sketchy. It is still a neat knife but being the most expensive of the three I am slomewhay disappointed.

Simple, sharp and rugged knife. Great value.
A friend recommended this knife and he sure steered me right. It is a very simple design, rugged, strong "locking" at 90° and when fully extended. Very sharp. Easy to grip despite being thin. This is a great knife to carry around. My friend said he skinned a cow and dressed out a deer with his.The blade is carbon steel so I cold blued the blade. Also painted the handle with some red Rustoleum spray paint as I have lost my last two blades doing yard work. I hope it'll make this one easier to find if I drop or misplace it.

A great knife in it's day---but potentially dangerous for modern users accustomed to locking blades
I won't reiterate the generally accurate comments made by other reviewers, who give a good technical description of this interesting all metal classic pocket knife. For it's time one of the lightest and most capable available. It's heavy but nonlocking 2 position slip joint should prevent the blade from closing under normal work and cutting stresses. But I wouldn't bet on it, and any user who wants to keep all of his fingers should keep them away from the blade slot while using it. The slip joint has a heavy draw weight to provide some level of safety, which it does. But it also causes the sharp blade to snap shut with guillotine force. In fact, the most dangerous operation is closing it. Make sure your fingers are nowhere near the slot as you do so, since the blade is light and slippery and lacks a thumbnail nick, so it can easily get away, especially if one's fingers are wet or greasy. An exotic collector's item at an economical price that can function well as a utility knife or emergency weapon for those using the proper precautions. However the Mercator K55K "Kriegsmarine Cat Knife" of the same vintage with it's strong, fully locking blade is a much better choice for serious use and even compares well in size, flatness and weight (as does the Douk Douk) to modern knives. It doesn't look quite as cool as this one however. At their respective prices neither can be beat as a bargain price collector's item.

Quality knife! Great value for the money! Highly recommend!
This knife is constructed way out of proportion compared to its price. It is solid, has a very strong back spring, easy to sharpen and holds an edge for a long time. Has an adequate edge upon delivery. Glad I purchased this one. Well worth the money. Only con is that is doesn't have a lock, but the strong back spring makes up for that. Highly recommend.

Great design that's lasted 92 years and counting
You have to love any item that was so well conceived to begin with that it's been in continuous production for nearly a century with essentially no changes to it. That's the Douk Douk. Simple, sturdy, durable, and it looks cool. You can get modern pocket knives at this price point that are arguably better (have a lockback feature, better ergonomics, more bells and whistles), but ultimately, the Douk Douk works really well and has a ton more style than a $27 Gerber or Kershaw.
