LP Aspire 11 Conga Dark Wood

Just bought a 10" LP Aspire in the dark finish, and I couldn't be more pleased. I chose it because I could not find a requinto or anything close in 9-10" in the same reddish brown color to match my LP Matador set (quinto, conga, tumba). So, even though this is 28" tall with black hardware and the Matadors are 30" with chrome, I went for it. Turns out it was a good choice. The color match is very close, and the tone is outstanding. I mount my congas on small stands that I make out of plywood, so the height difference didn't matter - I could raise it off the floor to the same level as the others. This little drum has a great song - really nice tone that fits very well when tuned in concert with the others, but best of all is an amazing bass - really surprising, given its size, and as good as or even better than any of the others. No guarantees that every drum in a group will sound the same, even when all else is equal. So, ideally, one should give a listen before buying and/or have a return option. But I'm totally happy with this one, which has a wonderful natural skin and tunes nicely to C (I set the others at E, G, A). Final note: it came with a tuning wrench but did not come with hanging hardware or a carrying handle. I don't need either one, and there's that much less to scratch on the drum next to it...but if you need those, they might have to be purchased separately.
