Once you have it set up, it's fantastic
Up until this point we have been Blu Ray holdouts. But now that these players are able to stream a lot of services that my wife and I enjoy over XBOX Live (Netflix, Hulu), as well as services I've typically used my computer for (MLB.tv), I wanted to go ahead and jump in. I'll start by saying that this unit does wifi, but I'm currently not utilizing that feature. I purchased this particular unit because it's listed on Samsung's site as being capable of running the MLB.tv app, while some of the non-wifi devices did not list that particular app. That was a deal breaker for me, so I paid the extra money despite the fact that our router is located right next to our entertainment system. Just to make sure everything was set up correctly, I did log in to the network, and it worked just fine on this unit. But ultimately, I feel like if I can hardwire something that I'm going to be streaming content from on a daily basis, I might as well. Set up was simple, and the unit is phenomenally sleek. With both the TV and Blu Ray player off, when I turn the Blu Ray player on, it also turns on the TV. On top of that, it also turns the TV's input to the HDMI that the unit is hooked into. Technology is making us lazier, but when it comes to something like this, "Thank you, technology". After receiving this player, I immediately hooked it up and tried a Blu Ray that we had from one of those combo packs, and it looked fantastic. Better than the DVD that we had previously purchased the movie for. Like, significantly better. Why have we been holding out, again? It DOES take a little bit of time to load. I'd say 20-30 seconds, maybe? Some people might be bothered by this, but for the last few years we've just used the XBOX for DVD playback, and I don't really feel like that's THAT much faster of a choice. What I really purchased this for was the streaming/internet functionality. I won't lie: The UI for the Netflix and Hulu Plus apps is not as clean as it is on XBOX Live. On Netflix, titles display in a grid as opposed to a long line of titles in your queue. It's just not as nice, IMO. But it's definitely functional. And the picture looks just as great as it does on my XBOX. I'm going to take a moment to focus on the MLB.tv app, because when I was researching Blu Ray players, that info was a little harder to come by. Samsung, LG and Sony are the only manufacturers who offer an MLB.tv app on their Blu Ray players, and even then, not all of their players offer it. In fact, I believe Sony only makes it available on their PS3. And with Samsung and LG, it's absent from some of their lower end (IE, non-wifi equipped) players. I set up my account, but it gave me an error message immediately. Turns out I needed to download the newest firmware, to a USB key, and then load it to my player. This is the type of thing that will turn off others from a purchase and possibly have them sending the player back to Amazon. I don't know why, when I first turned this player on and it downloaded a new firmware update, it didn't download the NEWEST firmware. Granted, according to Samsung's website, it had just released, but even when I manually searched for the firmware on the player, it didn't find it. But I will say that downloading it to a USB key and loading it in was fairly simple. Maybe just a little more than some might like. Regardless of all that it took to get working, the app works great. And the picture is ridiculous. HD quality 95% of the time. All in all, we're very happy with this player. It's really sleek and fits in great with our entertainment system. It takes a little bit extra to set up some of the streaming features, but you won't devote an entire evening to set this thing up. Also, for anybody coming from something like an XBOX to play movies: this player is SO quiet. Like, not even realizing it's on sometimes quiet. So much different than the XBOX.

I think it's great :)
I can not understand where all these negative reviews are coming from with this device. I've had it a few weeks now (wanted to give it a fair assessment) and I have had only one (extraordinarily minor) concern, which I will outline below. But as far as the other negatives that people made comments about: Wi-Fi - I used the Wi-Fi for Netflix, and VuDu (you get a $5 credit), and had no problems. But, I am back on the wire now only because I had a port right there that was available, and you don't have to worry about the firmware updates. Anyway, the Network settings (both wired and wireless) were simple, took about 2 minutes, and worked flawlessly. Storage - People have made an issue about no internal storage. Well, I didn't see it advertised that it did so...why the hate? If you buy a blue car, are you going to drive it home and whine about it being blue? AND, it is a really simple situation to remedy...stick in a flash drive. If you don't have three or four laying around, you can get one for less than $10. Loading Time - Look, if you are going to go to a store and compare if one is 15 seconds to load compared to another that is 40 seconds or whatever...you need to go get a girlfriend or something. Someone in another review mentioned another very simple solution...go make popcorn while it's loading. <---THIS My Opinion: for $100, this thing looks great (the unit itself), has been working great, and the picture this thing produces and the sound it decodes are both awesome. You get some cool apps, and if you use a wired connection you don't have to worry about any updates via flash drives...leave it on the wire and it does it auto-magically. And, one thing that I LOVE about this is that it allows you to skip over the FBI warnings, etc. (any disc that I tried it allowed me to skip over the warnings) The ONLY thing I have noticed (and, this is likely not even the fault of the player) is that on some discs when you fast forward it won't stop when you press "Play" again and will continue to stay in fast forward. The solution that seems to work for all discs is pressing "Pause" to get out of fast forward, the press "Play" again. I think this is more due to the discs rather than a shortcoming of the player.

Very impressed! Sleek and simple!
This is our first Blu-Ray player and I must say that I am very impressed! We chose this particular brand and model based on other great reviews for its ease of set up and for the fact that it's the best price for what you're getting! When I started my search for an update to our DVD player, I had no idea that you had the option of getting "apps" like Netflix, Facebook, Pandora Radio, etc. much less that you needed not only "WiFi Ready" capabilities, but that one would probably want to get something with "WiFi Built In" (yes, there is a difference!) so I was intimidated at first, but this is the best for the budget we had, and we weren't disappointed! The set up was amazingly simple - it picked right up on our home WiFi network and all I had to do was enter my password. The Netflix and Pandora set up was equally simple! Those are the only two I have used so far, but it seems to be a pretty user-friendly "app" station. The buffering on Netflix problem that I've heard some people complain of hasn't happened to us once. When the program is on, once it initially loads, we have no experienced any interruptions. Programming the Blu-Ray remote to control our TV's volume/channel settings was also very simple. All-in-all, we are very happy with our choice and I would recommend this to anyone who wants the quality of a nice, higher-end name-bran Blu-Ray player without needing all the bells and whistles that a unit at twice the price would cost! Honestly - I doubt you will even notice a difference!

Poor Product
This is a very poor product. The wifi is inconsistent, and very slow. I have had it for 4 days now, and have not been able to watch a single episod of anything from netflix, hulu plus, or vudu. It locks up, and stops responding to the remote. If it does respond to the remote, it takes a couple of minutes to respond. When it did play some of the episodes, it was jumping, and the audio would get a couple of seconds behind the video. At the same time, I could play the same episodes on my Ipad with no problems at all. The DVD plays well, but it sounds like a jet engine is about to take off. Very poor product.

Its ok, but expected better from Samsung
I got this blu-ray player when it was $99 during the Black Friday sale. And I was debating because of the mixed reviews I saw, but decided to go ahead and buy it. Pros: Setup was fairly quick, it was under ten minutes to get it updated and install Smart Hub. I've had no problem with the wireless, it connected quickly. Picture quality is amazing, there's no doubt about it. Youtube has been working fine. Now it has split the screen in two in some videos, but I can always find another video were it doesn't do that. So its not really a big deal to me. Cons: The main one is that its just plain slow. It takes about a whole minute before starts playing the blu ray. It just reads and reads the disk, until finally it plays. So as of right now I'm not really thrilled with it. Because it just slow, but I'm going to give it a few more days.

Lack of Knowledge
It surprises me how many negative reviews I read about Blu Ray players in general that have nothing to do with the player, but has everything to do with the person's lack of knowledge about electronics. While researching for a Blu Ray player for my parents, I came across a guy who gave a player a negative review because the player's box didn't tell him that the cable modem that he was using wasn't capable of supporting two Ethernet connected devices and that he would need a router for the player and his home computer to be hooked to the internet at the same time. It is not the Blu Ray manufactures job to inform the customer of basic facts. That would be like getting mad a car dealership for not telling a customer that the automobile needs gasoline to work correctly. The next one that drives me crazy is when people complain about firmware updates. Wake up people. Your player is a dumbed down computer that is made especially for videos and will need updates from time to time. Do you get mad at Microsoft every time your home computer gets updates? No, you don't. It may be annoying, but you do it anyways because you know it will make your computer run better. Also, whining about needing an update right out of the box is plain stupid. In fact, it makes me feel more secure about my purchase. It lets me know that the manufacturer is still working to make my device better even after they have my money. And it lets me know that if any new apps are released, my player may be able to handle them and, once again, make my home theater experience better. The Samsung BD-D5700 was purchased because of the Built-in WiFi (I really have no idea why they even make WiFi Ready Players). I researched and compared all of the mid-priced Blu Ray players with Built-in WiFi and it came down to either a Samsung or Sony. I wanted the Hulu Plus App and these were the only two with that option. Both the Samsung and Sony models had decent reviews but each had a few negative aspects. The Samsungs had a slow load time reviews (time it takes to power up the player and play a movie) and the Sony models apparently had some spotty WiFi video steaming (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube). This player was going to be used at my parents on an N wireless router, so the Sonys were out. But a few weeks later I ended up buying a Sony that I hooked up to a hard line in my own house. Both work amazingly and have not had a single issue. But then I knew what situation each was going to be used for and planned ahead. And just so this review is complete, the Samsung does not load as fast as the Sony, but it is nowhere near the wait time as the earlier Blu Ray players.

Strong on package, but the remote is a little spartan
I purchased this blu-ray player to steam Netflix to my 2nd floor bedroom approx 2 months ago. It replaced my Sony BDP-300 (OG) blu-ray player. I was concerned about wireless steaming from previous experience, but this works 90+ percent of the time. The distance between my router and the player is approx 45 Ft (floor and two walls) and I have a Signal to noise ratio of about -65 dB to -70 dB measured on my phone. in the two months of daily usage it has lost signal approx 2 times. Each time I Reboot (power-down and power-up) and it streams properly. I run a BP-1600 hardwired to the same network down stairs and it has similar availability. The remote is very generic but very good communication from 25 ft away. It does surprisingly lack stretch functionality so I need to adjust my TV to stretch 4:3 to 16:9. The Blu-ray launch time is phenomenally fast(quicker than my old DVD players). The remote has a dedicated Netflix button, but note it usually messes thing up if you press it during booting. The Samsung app store is interesting and applications of note are Facebook, Google Calender Amazon Movies and Google Maps. The major impediment to using this is their old cell-phone keyboard format (press "1" slowly 3 times for c) and no option for a virtual Qwerty arrow around keyboard. Accessing apps is not fast either the awkward keyboard and slow app load speed make my smart phone an easier option. There is global (Netflix-Amazon and other sources) movie search engine, but I'd rather walk down stair and punch it in my laptop than deal with the keyboard. Netflix streaming and GUI are on par with running on my laptop. The only thing missing is the subtitle for hard of hearing option I am hoping that will come with the next update. As far as updates the first one went quickly & smoothly in a suprising quick 2 minutes. It questions you if you want to update now or next time it boots. An excellent machine if you only require stereo and component video or if you run all HDMI Like me.

Samsung BD-D5700 Blu-ray Disc Player
After returning a Panasonic Panasonic DMP-BDT210 Integrated-Wi-Fi 3D Blu-ray DVD Player which I could NOT connect to the internet. I tried this one since I already have a Samsung TV. In a word, the performance of this unit is impressive. I was a little concerned when the package arrived, because it came in the original product box, not placed inside another box for protection. However, the package was apparently treated reasonably well, because there was no damage to the box or contents. After I connected the cables, in less than 5 minutes I had internet connections both with CAT6 cable and wirelessly and had updated to the latest firmware. It was THAT easy! I particularly like the Netflix button on the remote which makes it easier than navigating through the menu to get to Netflix. Another factor in my purchase was the ability to connect to Youtube, which I enjoy occasionally. Disk playback performs flawlessly with both Blue Ray and a variety of DVDs. I would not hesitate to recommend this unit to someone who wants a good quality, well performing and easy to set up player.
