Helpfully Breaks Down and Summarizes Reams of Happiness Research into 10 Action Steps
This handbook is a comforting resource; it pulls together tons of interesting and helpful advice/research findings and the author's insight along with that of other experts under 10 headings (that = "Great Dream").There is so much advice out there, so many happiness studies and inspiring stories ... but Vanessa King has managed to find a way to corral much of it and present it in a format that is readable and easy to reference to be able to find the inspiration you seek in a format that includes both short stories and bullet points.A very good summary and reminders of all the great advice we've been told or read or seen in listicles and blogs and on Medium.com, etc etc etc over and over but all in one useful volume.Good index and resource section too for further reading. If you enjoy self-help books are seeking to be happier and gain more meaning from your life, if you want to delve into happiness research but only have time to read one book of the zillions on the topic, this is a good oneGiving (Do things for othersRelating (Connecting with peopleExercise (Take care of your body)Awareness (live life mindfully)Trying Out (Keep learning new thingsDirection (Have goals to look forward to)Resilience (Find ways to bounce back)Emotions (Look for what's good)Acceptance (Be who you are)Meaning (Be part of something bigger than yourself)

A collection of lukewarm research on components of "happiness"
Nothing original; a feel-good book of gathered information from well-known scientists of behavior. Most disappointing was the mis-spelling of Viktor Frankl's name (page 216, paperback version). As it is appears in the chapter on resilience, it would have been fitting to note that Dr. Frankl was a Holocaust survivor rather than the author's elementary offering of: "Psychiatrist Viktor Frankel famously said . . . " I stopped reading after that.

Highly recommended filled with theory, science and practical tips.
Vanessa King's exciting, wonderful new book based on her brilliant work with the inspiring Action for Happiness movement is a gem. I highly recommend this text for Positive Psychology students, teachers, and for anyone looking for strategies to live a more happy, purposeful, and meaningful life.

Brilliant book which has made me happier!!
This book may well change how you think about happiness for life!! I know many people who are unhappy both in the short term and in a more unfulfilled, dissatisfied with life sort of way. I was familiar with the work of Matthieu RIchard, who has written an excellent book on happiness and so I approached this book with an open mind. I was not dispooitned. This is a book is prepared for a modern westernised critical, sceptical approach to happiness. And so this book is full of clinical psychological studies and results as well as practical, hands on things you can do to improve your happiness, not just phrases or ideas. I've loved using the ideas from this book in my life and seeing their results on others! I particularly enjoyed doing the random acts of kindness as suggested. I baked several fruit cakes and handed hem out to my local neighbours and we now enjoy great relationships! More excitingly, what you will find is that by doing the actions suggested in this book, and creating your own, your thinking on happiness begins to shift and I realised that my happiness was something I could nourish and grow, like one would look after their physical health or personal relationships. So I can say I am much happier after reading this book and I continue to be so. Go get it, do the activities and be happy!!
