Coarse Fishing Basics: A Beginner's Guide

A fantastic book - really informative, easy to read, great pictures
I bought this book for my 11 year old son who is developing a love for fishing with his Dad. I'd looked at lots of books to help him begin to learn more about the subject and this book/manual is simply the best on the market that I could find for a beginner. It is laid out beautifully with clear photographs and good diagrams. It tells you all about the equipment - the different types of rods, reels, tackle etc - clearly explaining what they're all for, when best to use them and how. It gives you step by step clear instructions on how to cast, set up a ledger, tie knots, mix groundbait etc. It contains a comprehensive section on baits and then goes on to a section about 'know your fish' where it describes what each one looks like, where to find them, how to fish for them and which baits to try which my son found particularly useful. It also has a section specifically focused on what is to be found and how to fish in different places like lakes, ponds, canals, rivers, gravel pits etc There is further information on fishing topics as you advance from being a beginner and the book ends with 50 top fishing tips. I would thoroughly recommend this book to a beginner or intermediate fisherman who wants the facts clearly explained and likes some visual instructions too.

Good Book
I am taking up fishing again after 40 odd years so needed something to point me in the right direction. So far this book has enabled me to get the right tackle and prepare me for my first fishing trip..will edit and update once I’ve had a few trips.

A good place to start
I bought this for my ten year old son as he was starting to gain an interest in coarse fishing but obviously knew a lot less about it than some of the people he went fishing with. He's not a great one for reading (the type of person who'd far rather be out and about doing something) but many's the time I've caught him (no pun intended!) with his nose buried in this book. There are concise sections on types of fish, where to find them and what type of bait to use / how to set up the line to catch them, a couple of pages on tieing knots, descriptions of different types of rods, reels, floats etc and what they're used for amongst other things. The (plentiful) illustrations are clear, nicely printed and well annotated and it doesn't all get bogged down in too much techo-speak.I think it's fair to say that this book has helped him a lot. He's more confident in setting up and more often than not he'll now succeed in catching his chosen prey. What's more, he keeps on coming back to this book when he needs advice. For not much more than the price of a monthly fishing magazine, this is a bargain. Highly recommended.

Quality Fishing Book
Bought this book for my son who is a want to be fisherman. He has never been fishing, so I thought that I would give hin=m a good book to read. The topics were just right, not too technical and the author spoke to you not down to you. The pictures were of good quality and the step-by-step guides are perfect. All in all, a good book at a very competative price.

Nice book to a beginner of fishing.
I needed a book for my son and me. I used to fish but required a nice book to show him the basics etc. Nice pictures and photos and easy to understand information. Love it.

Great book, exactly what I was looking for!
Great book for a beginner, I have only had a quick look through it but my son (aged 8) who is new to fishing is going to love it. I have had to hide this book from my husband who is an experienced fisherman and thinks the book is so well written in its pictures and instructions that he wants to keep for himself!
