Excellent choice for stock pot
Very well made, flat bottom, sturdy handles and easy to clean. Steamer and pasta insert are very convenient.

Nice Cooking pot
The steamer part is large enough. This pot is of good quality and durable. It's a good value for money.

Great High Quality, combination pot with a metal lid.
I did a lot of research for a quality pot with a metal lid. This 8 quart pot is ideal for a stock pot, sauce pot, and a gumbo pot, mainly because it has a very thick bottom and thick side walls. It comes with a large capacity strainer which is good for boiling pasta, potato, cauliflower, and any other food you need to boil, steam, and strain, like Lobsters. The steamer insert sits high above the water and is deep enough to steam smaller quantities of food, like Artichoke, Asparagus, mixed vegies, fish, shellfish, and clams. One of my criteria was to have a metal lid as opposed to a glass lid. Another criteria was it must be constructed with heavy duty, high quality stainless steel, and under $300. This pot fit all of my requirements, and has been a wonderful tool in my kitchen. I am 100% satisfied with this Viking Pot, and being Norwegian, it fits my personality.

Good quality and heat distribution, but a bit narrow for gas ranges
Could not pass these up on a Good Friday sale and they make a nice addition to my collection. Works well for heat distribution for stewing tomatoes for canning. The only downside is this pan is a little on the narrow side and does not work well on several of my gas burners on my GE Cafe range. If the burner is on high, you can see flame extending beyond the edge and the handles get super hot. Because of this, we use this mainly for soups and large batch sauce on smaller burners, and we use the wider All-Clad G5 8 qt dutch oven for boiling water for pasta.

Useful multi-pot
Purchased this to replace a 25+ old stainless 8 qt pot have used for years. I wanted the pasta insert and steamer as I do not have and I need to eat gluten free so my pasta is cooked in a small separate pot. This allows me to not have to clean my strainer out in between draining ea. type of pasta. It will also clear up space on stove top as I can steam the veggies to go in pasta same time as noodles are cooking along with my pasta pot and the meat and sauce in yet another pan. I don't want to have to reach across large pots on the stove. This pan is in Vikings "mirror" finish. I recently purchased the 2 qt 5 ply Viking saucepan and to prefer the look of the brushed finish more and like the added weight to the pan and the handles more than the 3 ply. So for the 6qt I will add eventually I will spend the extra and go 5 ply as very substantial. The pasta insert and steamer are not available with the heavier 5 ply 8 qt Viking stockpot. That said the 3 ply is sturdy enough to handle pasta etc. It would have been nice to stay with the brushed stainless look and the heavier pot even if the inserts were the same.

High quality but a lot of wasted space between the bottom of the pot and the strainer
Very high-quality and beautiful finish on this pasta pot. I just wish the strainer was made deeper so you don’t have to fill the pot completely with water. I purchase this pot so I can cook a large amount of pasta, two small packs. But because of the design of the strainer you have to put at least 6 to 7 quarts of water to boil to be able to cook two small packs at one time, it’s taken twice as long to cook. Too much waste of space between the bottom of the pot and the strainer.

Well made
The best straining pot I have found. The main basket is perfect for boiling items. The steamer basket is large enough to steam vegetables for the whole family. The pot is heavy duty. Well worth the cost.

Versatile pot
The base pot is very versatile. I use it for many of my cooking needs. There is a definite heft to the pot, with aluminum core on the sides as well as the base. It comes to a boil faster than my 6 qt all clad, which only has the base with aluminum core. The pot is broader so the noodles fit better in the pot. I also have less boil over. My all clad was made in China too. The Viking is clearly better quality.
