Drill baby, Drill
My husband has a 3 point post hole digger with a five foot auger hooked to his tractor and he was digging a few holes to plant some larger fruit trees. But when it comes to plants and bulbs a smaller auger was needed. I found this Power Planter 3"x12" DIY Guru Auger when I showed it to my husband he thought it was cute. Cute?Check out the pic, the video wouldn't play right. Will try again. In the pic you can't really tell how deep the holes is, it's deep. Today he was showing me how to use it properly, how to dig holes with it, after the first hole he wouldn’t give it up. I'll forgive him since he bought me the coolest 100 foot cord on a reel. The auger is hefty and sharp, easy to put on and off my 3/8ths drill. Wish I'd have bought one many plants ago. Thanks Power Planter for the fast service.

So VERY glad I got this- this changes everything.
Oh my gosh. I want you guys to know- this thing is AMAZING! I used it to plant 108 liriope, and it took me about 3.5 hours (including digging out some rock, and mixing in planting soil, etc.) There is absolutely no way at all I could have done that by hand. It has, in the past taken me about 10 minutes to chisel a small hole into our rocky, red clay yard. But this tool made the job so, so much easier. I still had to use a spade to dig out some larger rocks, and I had to hack through some roots. The next day I used it to 'assist' in digging much larger holes for 13 shrubs. I was delighted to see just how much 'assistance' it gave. In most cases, I was able to use the auger, turning it at an angle, to do 85% of the digging, I used it to get a hole started, then would remove the dirt, and use the auger to expand the hole and go deeper. I was able to dig each hole, about 10" wide by 14" deep, in less than 10 minutes. Again, absolutely no way I could have done all that digging manually. I love this thing. Seriously.I do not have the strength (or aim) to use a pick axe or pole digger, so I have had to rely on my BF to dig holes for me. Now I can do it myself (so I'll be planting a lot more stuff!) Yay!!!A couple of notes: as mentioned above, you still obviously have to deal with roots and rocks. When holding the drill, use two hands (one on the handle and one on top for control and a bit more pressure)- but be alert to let go of the handle if the bit catches on a root. It will, of course, jerk your wrist pretty significantly if you don't let go. There were a few times I had to reverse the drill to get the auger loose. My BF set the drill to hammer setting and that worked great. He also had to tighten the grip a few times. Be warned that using this auger will get your drill VERY dirty. It creates a lot of dust (especially if you have red clay like us) so be prepared to give the drill a good cleaning. I did not find that the drill power drained quickly (it has a replaceable battery, may 9 volt?, and I replaced it twice for the 108 holes, and once for the 13 bigger ones.)

Power tool for the girl!
I just put a new terrace garden and wanted to plan spring bulbs. The dirt I have is a little muddy and hard so I wanted to add some compost and other dirt before putting bulbs down. I attached this auger on my power tool to till 4 x 4 area and it worked great. I'm glad I bought 3" x 12" instead of a typical 1" 1/2" or 2" auger. Some of my bulbs are big and it made a nice space for it. I was very pleased with this auger as it dug very fast and cut the flower bed prep time in half. Only thing I did not like was that the coat stripped off on a first use. I've got to do something so it won't rust. (note : when you use a drill, stay slow with the speed. If you hit rock or hard soil while in high speed it can throw your wrist, elbow, shoulder out! )

Love this thing.
I absolutely love this auger. I bought it because I bought forty tulip bulbs which I was planning on planting in hard clay soil. It took me about 45 minutes to plant all of the bulbs. It drilled through the clay like it was soft loam, ripped through tree roots and piled all the dirt next to the hole. Just keep a firm grip on the drill, preferably with two hands, because this baby rips.I had so much fun. and so much time left over, that I ended up buying 150 daffs and 200 crocus bulbs. I am looking forward to spring and using this auger to plant my vegetable seedlings.

I must be the odd one out.
after having read loads of wonderful reports about it, I decided to buy the Power plater 312. To my disappointment, it did not do the job it was meant to do.It did not dig a hole more than 3- 4 inches and that too with a lot of effort. It will dig to 8 inches only with maximum power and with Hammer action mode. That I found too dangerous to operate with. The soil I used it on is full with small flowery plants and surrounded with shrubs and 2 small trees in a section of my garden.T he power planter just would not dig more than 3-4 inches i.e to the topsoil level only. My drill is fine with making holes in concrete and even steel but in the ground earth no way. I double checked with the videos and literature but failed to make it work as claimed in the soil. I do not think I am doing anything wrong. I am 71 but gardening does not bother me granted I cannot use heavy chisels and shovels. So I am disappointed with my shopping.

Beware the promises
Amazon advert:Fits any cordless or corded drill with a 10mm or larger chuck size (very common)Hand Welded in the USA with a Lifetime Warranty on Materials and Craftsmanship.Heavy Duty (16mm) 5/8" solid steel shaft wont bend or twist out of shapebut when you receive it, the instructions say not to use a corded drill as it may be too powerful and might bend or twist the shaft and may break the welds. Also the 'lifetime warranty' expires after a short time as they expect it to wear out - 'professionals will expect to replace it several times each year'. The warranty covers defects in welding which become apparent when you try to use it for the first time.but I've just planted 200 bulbs and it worked well - especially if there are no rocks or tree roots

Awesome, game changer
As a gardener for a living I though the ads for this were too good to be true and ignored this product for over a year. Having received an amazon voucher which I didn't know what to do with I settled on the powerplanter 307 after all it wasn't going to cost me much.To date a week on and I have used this for over 5 hours and probably done more like 20 hours work (so it is cost me as I charge by the hour!!!) But truthfully this is so much better than using a trowel, fork etc and so much quicker. I can for the most part turn the top 5/6 inches of soil with amazing ease and speed and if you follow the video (safety instructions) hen you cant go wrongAlready three other people have asked me where they can get one for me this is a game changer and has made a massive difference to me and the soil itself breaking it down to a fine tilth.

Utterly incredible!
This is absolutely flipping amazing!! I can’t do it enough justice! I’m just on the last run of planting 3500 bulbs for a job and without this i would’ve been in some major bulb planting financial disaster! With this I can dig a 300mm deep hole in seconds (for alliums in case your wondering what would require such a deep hole!) and it’s big enough to put my whole hand and bulb down into the hole to plant it the right way up and settle it into position. I have even turned over and fluffed up whole planting flower beds, nothing more than a couple of m2 yet but it is incredible! One moment a compacted bit of soil then seconds later it’s super fluffed and soft and ready to plant.. if you’re at all interested you should definitely buy one, you can’t help but be impressed!

If you’ve got hard/compact/stony/clay ground under your garden, YOU NEED ONE OF THESE!
Absolutely excellent tool! The ground at my house is awful—thick, stony clay—almost impossible to dig by hand. Ordered this to use with my DeWalt cordless drill so I could dig down to set some fence posts, and it literally saved me hours of work and about ten pints of sweat! Stones and rubble were no match for this product if you go slow and apply enough pressure. Not the cheapest of options out there, but for me, worth every penny! Will definitely be using again!

Wow. Great tool for all who love gardening but find it hard to dig around
I cannot believe I waited a year to purchase one of the power planters. I now have three. I first purchased the 307 followed quickly by the 324 and then a week later I purchased the 207. What wonder tools to have. I did have to spend on a new drill, old one not powerful enough, but now I have planted so many plants and bulbs in the garden that I have not been able to before as the earth was so hard a fork would not penetrate. It was a learning curve to use these tools and drill, but please make sure that you watch the YouTube instructions videos - they are priceless. Have fun just like I am having fun in my old age (psst over 70).

excellent time saving planting tool
This is a robust, high quality tool that looks made to last.We planted 120 bare-rooted hedging plants in very short time. It made that job a breeze. I would never wish to return to a spade !Easy to use with a cordless drill so very portable around the place.

Brilliant tool
Used with a quality battery hand drill, this has made gardening very easy for me. Having a bad back, using forks etc became painful. This tool is brilliant and allowed me to remove two root balls without great difficulty. Turning over compost in containers and flower beds is a piece of cake now. Digging holes for larger plants, trees no longer a problem for me. Delighted with this product.

Effective tool
If you have rock hard clay soil, as I do, then I'd definitely recommend one of these. I use it with an 18v combi drill and it bites into the soil really well. Don't underestimate the force needed to keep the drill straight though, I found it easiest to wedge the drill handle against my leg to stop it spinning.

Unable to get past the top layer.
Unfortunately, our garden is clay and although we attached the power planter to a wired drill it, still, was unable to get past the top layer.

Never plant tulips without one...
This more a review for augers than necessarily this one - though it’s good. I used to break my back and callous my hands putting in hundreds of bulbs with a twisty thing. Now I have this I do it in a tenth of the time and no problems.

Extraordinarily effective!
I wish that I had bought this device before planting the first 100 bulbs!Using it turned 1/2 day of toil into a quick task accomplished with ease.It is important to read the instructions and watch the very helpful video to avoid such elementary mistakes as running your power drill in reverse. It worked equally well both on compacted soil and flower beds and I have recommended it to my friends.

Big disappointment
Read the reviews and was excited to buy this. Fitted it to cordless Bosch drill but despite the claims, the Auger just slips inside the drill chuck as soon as anything other than soft soil is drilled. Maybe I am doing something wrong but it isn't working for me.

Great product
Planted 4000 bulbs in no time.Need to hold drill with both hands... but I found far better than a traditional bulb planter which doesn’t work in our soil. There are cheaper ones on Amazon, but for this type of work you need something we’ll constructed. This is the product.

It’s good
Am giving it 3 stars, only because it did not come with any any instructions, being a women and I watched a online video and it would have been nice to have the instructions for safety reason as it slipped out of my hands, it’s good using in a small garden bed.
