Good Surprises
I receiver this tool 3 weeks ago. It arrived in a heavy cardboad box shrink wrapped to a strong pallet. No damages. Inspection of the machine revealed no damage or missing parts. I spent a day cleaning and inspecting the machine - nothing wrong. Checked alignments and run outs - tight and smooth actions. Centers aligned side to side and up and down. Turned some cold rolled steel. Cutters are sharp and lined up on center, no shims or fussing around. Finish was good. I have nothing bad to say. I was afraid I'd be dealing with all the problems other people had to contend with other mini lathes, but Eastwood just did a great job!+

Great machine for small projects
This is the first lathe I've ever owned, and I have to say I'm loving it! Only one issue out of the box, the gearbox cover is plastic and came in cracked down the middle. I contacted Eastwood and they were happy to send me a replacement. As far as operation goes it has been very easy to learn and complete several small projects so far such as a machinist hammer and some basic turning and parting of aluminum and brass round bar.Construction is pretty solid and it has good rigidity out of the box.2 things I recommend adding to this purchase.First, get yourself a quick-change tool post. There are some great options on amazon for right around $100 and it will save you a ton of time when you really start wanting to make a lot of stuff.Second, ditch the provided tool bits and go with your own 5/16" HSS blanks which are inexpensive and grind them yourself, or get a 5/16" pre-ground set. I cannot stress enough how much of a difference this made for me especially if you plan on having a very fine finish on your parts, as the larger bits are much sturdier and more forgiving when trying to learn correct feeds and speeds.Very happy with this purchase, I would recommend this for anyone wanting a hobby machine or just to get into learning machining.

Handy machine
Handy Nice piece of machinery requires a lot of cleaning and adjusting -fine tuning I use it for working brass and aluminum and steel .has Lots of safety features. it's very much like the harbor freight mini lathe . I bought a quick change tool post for it ,a very worthy upgrade over the lantern style tool holder

Not terrible
It came In good packaging but the blue paint was chipped and peeling off everywhere, it’s an ok lathe but I tried to return it to get one that was a bit more advanced but to do so cost $250 for restocking fee and over $100 to ship it back so instead I purchased $400 in new parts for it to make it a descent lathe

Eastwood mini metal lathe
I received my lathe and it worked for one day, then wouldn't start again, so I got my money back. There appears to be trouble with the reset switch. When in trouble, the lathe shuts down. To reset it, you are supposed to turn the RPM knob to ), make sure the Stop button is up and wait five seconds. It doesn't matter how long I waited, it would not restart/reset and operate again. I thought I was doing something wrong, but followed the instruction manual very carefully. In my opinion the reset system is poorly engineered. I researched the problem and found others claim it works when it wants to...intermittently.

Great value for a mini-lathe!
Wow! What a great lathe! Take it from someone who learned on a South Bend lathe, this little addition to my hobby machine shop is top notch! The packaging was excellent and once I "degreased" the unit I found it to do exactly what it is built for. I like the all steel construction and attention to detail. This purchase is well worth the money, and you can't beat free shipping!

A fine mini lathe
A fine mini lathe. Received within a week of ordering and ran right out of the box—no setup or assembly needed. Center and sturdy. I’ve been doing professional machining for 7+ years, and so far I can say this is a nice little toy for home.
