Sweet little uke!
After looking at a lot of ukuleles I decided to purchase a Flea from the Magic Fluke Company. (The Fluke is their original ukulele.) Several things entered into my decision:1) It sounds great. You-Tube videos let me find out what a peppy and loud sound this uke creates.2) Durability. After I stopped laughing about the punishment players have put their Flea through it was apparent that this was a uke that would stand up to a 3-dog, country household.3) Flea players love their Fleas. You can't get a better feel for a product than by reading recommendations from people who have owned one for years and still love them. (Check out the owners' designs/decorations on the company site. The koi is my favorite.)Please note that this is a mostly plastic uke. The front of the soundbox is wood. You can upgrade the fretboard, tuner pegs, strings and probably other things I'm too lazy to look up right now. I've played guitar for years and the plastic fretboard makes no difference in either feel or play. The rest of the plastic (on the back of the uke) means no wood to keep checking and take care of. My Flea will not develop cracks nor will it dry out or mildew in the extreme humidity where I live. The open headstock meant I could whip up a Velcro strap that goes through the opening and attaches to itself. The other end? Say "sticky-back Velcro." Yup. Slapped a piece onto the flat end, adjusted the length and sewed a regular piece of Velcro to the free strap end. The Velcro will peel off when I want to remove it.The tuner works well. You'll use it every time you play until your strings finish stretching and settle down. The gig bag is made well and is all I need for my uke. The outside zippered pocket holds the tuner and a few finger picks with room left to spare. This is a spiffy little ukulele that is practically indestructible, sounds great and, let's be honest, looks really cool.

Fun but could be funner!
I find the Flea ukulele cool & fun, and am counting on it serving the purpose of being one I can leave in my vehicle, void of a warping fears etc., but I gave it only 3 stars for 3 reasons . . . #1) The back is very slippery, without the possibility of installing a button for a standard strap. (I don't like thong straps!) The leg stand offered, looks very impractical, so I won't even consider buying that. #2) It's quite pricey for my intended purpose and #3) The tuning pegs are not the greatest quality for the money. Since they're friction tuners, I realize there will be more slippage than normal, but to have to completely re-tune every time I pick it up seems excessive. I've tightened the screws to try and hold their positions better, but now it's like it's humanly impossible to make a slight enough adjustment to get some of the strings spot-on. Not sure this tuning issue will rectify itself in time, but am sure hoping so:).

Great uke
I get compliments on this uke everywhere. Nice sound. I bought this rather than the fluke because it fits into my suitcase. In the last month, it's traveled to London, the Grand Canyon, and Bryce. The bag is solid and I use it as a carry on under the seat. I had a 'gator' label on it I didn't like, so put a cute patch on to cover it.

Fun, tough, loud, good, rich sound and appearance
Fun, tough and good looking uke. This is my second uke. The good: great sound, loud and rich and full. Very snazzy looking. Seemingly very durable. And it’s made in the USA, not the Far East - yay! Issues: it has a pretty chubby neck which can make those tougher chords (yes I’m talking about E!) slightly more difficult if you have smaller hands. Yes, it takes a while for the strings to stretch and expect to retune it daily for the first couple months. Other than that no complaints; it’s a solid 4 star instrument at this price point. Recommended!

Play before you pay
I had doubts about a plastic and laminate ukulele but I like my flea. A lot. Still, it has it's drawbacks. Some pros: Roomy fretboard for a soprano. Light weight and sturdy. Sounds better than expected. Adorable. Some cons: The neck is thick and boxy, initially very uncomfortable. Black frets that disappear on a black fretboard - not the best option for beginners. I like friction pegs but the tuners on my Flea can be temperamental. Considering the materials, the Flea seems overpriced. As with all musical instruments, you really should play the actual ukulele you're considering before purchasing.
