What is particularly appealing about these pencils is that they are not like thick pieces of chalk; they write very smoothly and boldly, without any flaking, and they possess a strong white color that ensures visibility. I encountered no issues with sharpening, and they write well without becoming sticky or smudged. The pack contains four pencils at a price that is remarkably low, especially when compared to what one would typically pay at a learning or craft store. These pencils were precisely what we required for our chalk order placement signs, and they performed perfectly. So all in all, soft but not smudgy so very easy to use and had no issues with them breaking! If you look closely at the picture you can see the sign and the chalk!
