Learning to Play Bagpipes
The book did not include information on how to connect the Practice Chanter. I figured it out. I like the way the book instructs you on how to play. I have a lot to learn. Very pleased with the Chanter and book.

Bagpipe Practice Chanter
I bought it for my husband because he had been looking at something similar at the Scottish festival. He liked it.

This looks like a good basic practice chanter
I believe this is a good basic practice chanter, but I do feel the price is a bit high for the basicness of what is included. There are no instructions on how the reed should be placed in the chanter or any instructions on proper cleaning and maintenance of it. Fortunately I have found some decent information online to help in this respect.

I’m totally en-chanter-ed!!
I’ve never played bagpipes before but I’ve played wind instruments all my life and I’m totally obsessed with this little guy! Quality is good and the book is excellent, but if you aren’t familiar with written music something like the Hal Leonard Bagpipe method might be a good supplement. Both included reeds work well, but I’m getting Barefoot Bagpiper’s variety set to try others out. I have a hard time putting this thing down! Might need a kilt now…

Had one 40 some years ago.
Assembly is intuitive; Only text does explanation which seems not very good. [I found there is something wrong with the muscles of my right hand.] Fitting the chanter together is not as tight as I expected.

Great for Beginners
My daughter is starting to play the bagpipes in her school’s band and the teacher recommended that we purchase this before the more expensive bagpipes to make sure she likes playing. So far this seems to work and she plans on continuing with the bagpipes later this year.

Everything You Need
Comes with everything you need. The only thing holding you back is enough time to practice. Great product and instructional book.

I can’t put it together!
I got it put together about two/thirds of the way, using all the strength I had. It’s now jammed and will go no further, nor can I pull it apart again. Please help!

As an experienced musician across piano, trombone and voice, I purchased this chanter as a first step to learning pipes. I have searched for an email address to contact Barefoot Bagpipes but to no avail. This chanter isn't even close to being a good practice instrument. The music book references low G to high A. This chanter is in fact tuned to Ab. Even worse than that, it doesn't stick in Ab major. It actually plays Ab, Bb, C, D (not Db). At that point I stopped trying. (No idea what mode that translates to). Furthermore, contrary to the fingering chart, once low G (or rather Ab) has been released on the little finger, subsequent use of this hole for construction of other notes makes no difference to what note is sounding. Don't waste your time with this: you'll learn bad habits. I would be most grateful if someone could send me a new chanter - correctly built - or a full refund please.
