Fantastic Background for product photography
I couldn’t really find any info or reviews on youtube (other than the manufacturer of course) for this product, so I was hesitant to take the chance on this since returning it would be too expensive and bc of the poor review rating. However, I’m VERY glad I did. This was perfect for me. I tried to detail as much as I could though so you can make the call on whether it will work for you. I was pretty heart broken when I saw that Savage had discontinued their infinity vinyl backgrounds. They were my absolute favorite- never any ironing or annoying maintenance…but without the waste that seamless paper has. I do product photography for my ecommerce business and am pretty hard on my backgrounds-the paper was just too much waste. These are maybe not quite on the level of Savage’s quality but that’s an industry standard anyways that comes at premium prices. This is alot more affordable and in some ways Background Express’s version is better First the price was a lot more affordable and much easier to justify for a lowly ecommerce seller who isn’t a professional photographer lol. It’s also a lot cheaper over time than items like Savage’s seamless paper. And this thing is OPAQUE. More opaque than Savage’s (which is mostly opaque)…this was a huge bonus for me as the only place for me to put my setup is right in front of a window. I even put a flashlight under the background and there was absolutely zero light that came through. BE’s version is a little thinner, but that also translates to “not as heavy” which I’m a fan since my setup can’t take too much weight. That does mean it might wrinkle a bit more easily but these are pretty wrinkle resistant anyways. One thing I didn’t like about Savage’s was how heavily textured it is (which makes it kind of harder to clean). BE’s is a lot better in this way- the “texture” is very slight and not an issue. I will say that BE’s isn’t quite as matte…when we were unrolling it I def saw a very very minor sheen on it- however it doesn’t show up in the photos completely matte (even with lights), so it’s a non issue. If you’re used to buying the cheap PVC vinyl ones on Amazon (which was what I was using prior to Savage infinity vinyls), and are looking for a totally opaque background upgrade,…I think you’d really like this. But of course it’s def more of a material than plastic- it’s wrinkle resistant (but you could still wrinkle it if you were really careless). But I’ve never had to steam mine- as long as you have a buddy help you get it installed you shouldn’t have a problem. Who shouldn’t buy this? If you’re buying it to use for cake smashes…it’s not a good choice for that as it can still be dyed- maybe try PVC probably for that. However as long as cake dyes aren’t involved, the vinyl is very easy to clean. Be sure to read the description and measure carefully…. Even if you’re sure you know the correct size. Don’t buy on a whim, as you would be responsible for the return shipping if you needed to return it…and bc of the specialty size that would be very expensive. Which is why this item doesn’t have a higher rating actually. So yes, I’d definitely recommend it to others- esp if you’re looking for a cheaper long term it’s a great value in my opinion and comes is very useful sizes.
