The Mockingbird Devotional: Good News for Today (and Every Day)

Almost every day has deep reflections on various passages. Theologically orthodox, Biblically sound and well written. Mockingbird has been my go-to with my kids for a few years. Note that Mockingbird came out with a second devotional that is not as rich (IMHO).

After reading 2-3 days of this (I've now had it over 2 months), I realized this was no ordinary devotional. It's one I will use for years and years, never tiring of the daily reminders of grace that it gives. Walking through the general weariness and stress of life, it has so encouraged me. If you want to preach the Gospel to yourself daily, remembering that what Jesus has already accomplished on your behalf needs no additions, then look no further.Often when there are a variety of contributors, as is the case with this devotional, there are some that are strong and some that you just want to skip over. You won't want to skip over anything here. Taking from the foreward by C. FitzSimons Allison, "these authors read scripture seeing themselves as dry deserts needing the irrigation of God. They look on others sinners not with condemnation but with compassion. They share in God's love for this desperate world. Their hearts are open to hear the poignant cries of the world in movies, events, and lyrics of the day."My only "complaint" is that I'm afraid the paperback isn't going to hold up for very long because I reference it so much. I'd love to see a leather (or leather like) edition released.

The second Mockingbird Devotional: “Daily Grace” is also a breath of fresh air every day

Creative and unique insight into the grace and love of God shown to us through his Word, while also down to earth and easy to access. This devotional is a gem and a breath of fresh air.

This is an amazing devotional. I absolutely love it and have given it to so many friends. I have read and re-read this and learn something new each time (not sure if that is a glowing review or a statement about my short term memory)

Have bought and read a lot of devotionals over the years and never stuck with a single one. They all fail to keep me interested after a week or so. This one is different. I have found myself thinking about some of the devotionals for days on end afterwards - the mark of a good reading, for sure.Highly recommended if you are tired of the same old stuff, yet longing to connect with the same old, beautiful story.
