Compared Against the Competition
I spent more time than I'd like to admit researching poles before deciding on these.I do a lot of backpacking in places like Shetland and Orkney where there are no trees for ridgelines. I wanted high quality, lightweight poles that could also stand-up to wind storms.Roughly speaking, there are 3 types of portable backpacking poles to consider: Telescopic ones that can be locked to your chosen height. They unfurl similar to a telescopic fishing rod. Secondly, there are products like this one that come in pre-cut segments of a fixed size. Thirdly, if you're a Trekking pole user you could consider repurposing them to support your structure. The best selling Telescopic product on Amazon is the "WebTex Height Extendible Bivi Pole".It quickly became apparent from reading product reviews of the WebText and other telescopic poles that they suffer horribly from reliability issues. Be careful because some of them have aluminium twist handles, but use plastic parts for the internal locking mechanism that holds the height.Ray Mear's site Woodlore tends to only carry competent to great bushcraft kit and they recommend the telescopic 'Hilleberg Tarp Pole 2.0', but at over £60 per pole it was never a consideration for me.Having decided, that telescopic ones are too unreliable or in the case of Hilleberg too expensive I decided on a getting segmented one instead.I came close to buying the "Nordisk DAC Tarp Pole Short 2 Pcs. silver 2020" until I watched a guy try setup a tarp with it on you YouTube. But essentially, these poles are difficult to work with because they have no mechanism for keeping the segments together during the construction phase. Also, he Nordisk poles have polished top nipples that encourages the line to slip over when windy. But I could not have been more impressed by the thought and materials that have gone into the Unigear poles. They have produced a very high quality product that solves all the potential issues mentioned above. In the photos, I am only using 3 lengths in each pole to hold up a tiny backpacking tarp called the Snugpak Stasha. Each segment is approximately 45cm, but produces 40cm of useable height when slotted together. The diameter of the poles is roughly 15mm.But in summary, this product has been the perfect balance for me: compact, light weight, strong, high quality corrosion resistant materials and reasonably flexible in terms of height. Very impressed!

Strong, lightweight and clever design
These are strong and sturdy fibreglass poles which neatly lock into place as single pole pieces with male and female ends. This design nicely prevents the pole height from slipping, as happens with other adjustable designs. So these really are very good and they stay in place. It would have been good, though, if they were designed in such a way as to enable the poles to be used also horizontally as a ‘cross beam’ that could interlock with the vertical king poles (with a hole in the centre of each component pole, to enable this). If you are new to this and have not constructed tarp before, it is important to use guy ropes attached to the tops of the king poles - these will ensure the poles stay in position. Although these are more expensive than others on the market, and it is a shame Unigear does not sell the tarp with these poles in the first place, with a slightly lower price in total, I can assure you that these are very well designed and durable, lightweight poles. I needed ones that would not be too heavy when carrying my camping gear on foot, as I do not drive, and so the extra expense is worth the lighter weight and reliable design.

They are poles.
These aren't too shabby, they feel sturdy enough, they're not lightweight kit but they're not particularly heavy either. I don't really get the point of the springs, they don't exert a massive amount of force, maybe they do make the joint less likely to slip but they're well made and the poles fit snugly anyway, just a tiny added faff pushing them in when putting them together. They give you spare springs which is a nice touch. I love that they aren't bungied together, you can pick how many sections to use to either make 2 poles or should you need 1 really long pole that's an option too. I went for the red to make them slightly more visible, don't fancy anyone walking into them while they're holding up my shelter, the finish is very nice, I'm sure they will scratch over time, I'm not exactly precious with outdoor kit but they should hold up to a fair bit of punishment before they lose their finish.

Sturdy and good for larger camping trips
These are great value, strong and sturdy poles for a dining fly or over a tent. I've used them in heavy rain and wind, and so far they've not budged. Have used them for a few years now, and come back to order more for larger tarp setups.I'm sure there are lighterweight/more compact poles available, but they are by no means that heavy, and I can rely on them.

Great build quality
These poles are fantastic. You can choose the number of poles you want to use which gives flexibility. Great quality and therefore would trust they would stand up in strong wind. I have bought another set!

Light and strong poles
What I really love about these poles is that they are easy to put together and take apart without hurting your fingers pushing little buttons to separate them. They are also very adaptable as to height making using my tarp easy to adapt to the use I want, either as shade in my garden or over a tent.

Let down by very poor quality of carry bag
The poles are decent enough, lightweight and they survived some pretty strong winds on their first outing. On receiving them they seemed sturdy so I bought a second set. However they are let down by the very poor quality of the carry bags - on their first use the handle came clean away on one bag, while the other split at the bottom leaving the poles strewn across the campsite. If you are only ever transporting these by car this might not be a problem, but for my use the ability to carry these poles in the bag is essential so it's one star I'm afraid. I expected more at this price point so will be returning both sets for a refund.

Light, strong, easy to use
I ordered black and grey, I wanted 2 sets but for some reason couldn't change the quantity so had to do two separate orders. However they both arrived together on time and fully met expectations for strength and easy assembling. I used them for a large tarp and there was no bending or bowing...Great to have the bag too.

Light, strong, highest quality poles
Great poles. Matches my superb Unigear tarp! These will replace my older, soft 6061 aluminum poles that failed in high winds.Amazon's use of giant box for shipping was disappointing, unnecessarily increasing the cost to the supplier.
