A useful piece of Kit
I have recently purchased this kit for the installation of some Cat 6 cabling. It gives you a length ready quickly and the mapping is very useful, especially if you mess up a plug like i did. The tone probe appears to better than I read and the volume without an earpiece is good. I found it to be worth the money. The one down side is having to switch between sockets on the test for the different functions, but that's a minor thing and wouldn't let it put me off this.

Not bad
Continuity check works well, wire tracker too. Cable length measurement is not very reliable at shorter lengths, for me, it is only fairly accurate for cables over 10 meters long. NCV works like in many cheap multimeters - approximately. PoE testing sometimes showed me nonsense - even with standard Cisco equipment. But overall, for the money, it's a pretty decent tester, so far I'm happy.

Length Testing Works
Seems pretty good for the money. I wished that I had skipped cheap and basic cable testers. I had a break in a 50m cable run and wanted length testing - which worked surprisingly well on this tester. It did over state the total cable length a little but it did help me find the damage. Note that only one end of the cable needs to be plugged in to the tester and the other end left unplugged. I have seen a one review that suggested both ends of the cable need to plugged into the tester, which is not the case.

Really handy and good value
I've used this lots for tracing network cables around the house, testing newly terminated network connections and for checking lengths, and it works brilliantly, it's been so useful.Other than remembering to move to the right network connection on the tester when you change modes, it couldn't be easier. The included cables are for Cat 3 voice connections, so if you're testing a Cat 5/6 connection don't use those, use another cable if you're testing say a socket, otherwise it will only test 3 out of the 4 pairs.

Useless - Can't tell one cable from another
Used this item for the first time to trace a cable and was having issues understanding the reading#. I was getting a reading on every cable I touched.Turns out that if other cables are touching the connected cable, they all give a reading so it was impossible to trace. The sound it gives off is also far too quiet unless wearing headphones or ear pieces. The other functions might work well although I've not tried them, but it's irrelevant; the function I need is literally, useless.

Has potential...
Has the potential to be a very handy tool when working with network cable.Has some great features like cable measurement and continuity testing. I bought it for the tone which worked well and helped me find where a cable was running although it wasn't strong enough to trace it through the wall so took longer than I was hoping.Unfortunately the continuity testing seemed to have a fault on the unit I received and so it showed the same wire having a fault no matter which cable was inserted. The wires connected to the crocodile clips are very thin so wouldn't hold much hope on them being very durable. All in all slightly disappointed with the unit I received but if you get one in full working order it is potentially time saving, but most definitely not suitable for commercial use.

Does exactly what I need.
Installing an IP CCTV system. Needed something to check continuity and mapping of my CAT5e cables. Also had a few unlabelled cables, so needed a wire trace. When it came out of the box, it felt light and not particularly well built. BUT....it does the job, and has saved me tons of time. I also had reservations about the wire tracing, as had limited success with another brand. It's bang on every time.I've only used it with network cable, so can't comment on other cables/functions, including the POE tester, which I've not had cause to use yet.

Just what needed
Surprised how well this worked, definitely paid for it self already. Worked better than a standard mod tap that I normally use, found a fault other equipment couldn't.

TDR function is worth it
As I'm not the best installer, I had 3 cables that I'd run through my walls work poorly or not at all. I was using shielded cable (in my amateur radio station, where there's lots of electromagnetic energy present) and I was happy to see that it tested the ground connection as well as the 8 conductors. The continuity test is most useful, where you plug the supplied passive device into the far end and it tells you which wires failed, or were wired incorrectly, or if the ground is not conducting. The TDR function which measures cable length can sometimes help with identifying which end is in error. I had one connector where the wires weren't pushed in all the way and the TDR said this was an open circuit while the other end it was the expected cable length. Another cable that must have had marginal contacts showed the correct lengths at one end, and several different lengths at the other. Replacing the latter connector was the correct choice.I had one socket that had the middle (blue) pair reversed. The continuity test found that straight away, and after inspecting the plug at the opposite end and seeing it was correct, opened up the wall panel and corrected it.There is also a function to identify cables using a (powered) wand which emits an audio tone when near the cable that the main unit is plugged in to. This is another handy feature for narrowing down problems, although for shielded cable you need to have the wand near the connector rather than anywhere along the cable. All in all I fixed everything in a single afternoon, after having them in an unusable state for over a year. So it was money well spent. The unit comes with a little carrying case, and some short cables for testing RJ45, RJ11 and bare wires using alligator clips, and batteries for the two units that need them. The manual is clear enough, although does suffer from somewhat poor use of English.I'm very glad I bought this unit and it works as advertised.

Time saving assistant!!
This kit was perfect for wiring a home surveillance and network with a reel of CAT6 cables and terminals. I mis-wired one AP cable THREE times in a row! If it weren’t for the device it would have been a headache. The scan wand is very useful, too. Helped me identify and label a number of cables that lost their labels during their transit in the conduits.
