WIMBERLEYRB-100 Riser Block for Wimberley Head II - Made in USA

Beautifully made, pricey solution to a first world problem
At 25mm in height and 50mm in diameter, the Wimberly Riser Block adds more space than other competing options that are far cheaper. However, before you go and splash out on one of those other options, consider that the Wimberly has a 3/8” male thread, so if you need to adapt a 1/4” head, this won’t work without buying an adapter stud. The leverage bar is a nice touch, allowing the block to have smooth sides with no immediate grip penalty, although the bar becomes one more item to lose. However, the proverbial ace in the hole for the Wimberly is the included stud. It’s about an inch long. By loosening the set screw within the hole in the side, you can lengthen the stud to meet most requirements. In my case, I bought it to adapt a monopod to use as an extra tall center column for my Gitzo Systematic tripod. Combined with a panoramic disc, since the setup puts the ball head out of my reach, the long 3/8” stud on the riser block safely adapts the monopod’s thick end to the tripod’s flat base with thread to spare.

This riser is nicely finished, and the tolerances are very nice
I bought this riser block for use on a Really Right Stuff tripod as a spacer between the tripod base and my Arca-Swiss d4 geared tripod head. The d4 head's base diameter is small enough that the pan rotation lock lever could drag on the tripod base. This Wimberly riser is "perfect" in that its diameter is just right for the non-rotating portion of the base of the d4 head. The "rise" allows the pan rotation lever to operate freely on the tripod, with the added bonus of another inch of height. This riser is nicely finished, and the tolerances are very nice, allowing a precise fit on the RRS tripod, and the base of the Arca-Swiss head. The finish is first class, so that the "assembled" tripod and head w/ riser looks "all of a piece" and not "cobbled together." I realize that this riser is manufactured by Wimberly for a specific application with their ground pan "tripod" - but it certainly has other and very valuable uses for photographers.

Nice piece, but insanely overpriced
It is beautifully machined, perfectly anodized, fits and works EXACTLY as advertised. Regardless, had I known about the JJC Male 1/4"-20 to Female 3/8"-16 Threaded Screw Converter Adapter sooner, I would have purchased that instead of the Wimberley... for 1/4 of the price... because it does precisely the same thing... for 1/4 of the price. Yes, it's only half as nice... for 1/4 of the price.

Useful for other tripod set ups as well.
Used for a different tripod set up, it worked perfectly. I had a Benro geared head that had too low a profile for my Gitzo Systematic tripod. The adjustment knobs would hit the tripod when I was panning or tilting the head upwards. This riser gave me an extra inch of clearance. Just enough for all movements. The diameter of the riser matched the base of the Benro and it looks great.

Needed to add clearance between my RRS TVC-24 and RRS ...
Needed to add clearance between my RRS TVC-24 and RRS BH-40 with a pano head. The Pano clamp would rub when I used it vertically, the riser solved that issue.
