You pay up front for the expensive printer, but these tanks of ink last a very, very long tiem.
Huge difference between pay me now or pay me later. I've had a number of Epson "consumer" inkjets in both narrow and wide carriage formats. They had the multiple tanks, all very small and about $15 a tank. My photography work finally expanded to where I took the leap to the Professional grade Epson 3880 printer. At $1700, the up front investment was huge, but I can see where I am going to make it all up on ink costs. The ink tanks in the 3880 are huge. What I found with the other printers was that I'd pay a couple of hundred dollars for the printer, then pay through the nose in the rapid depletion of ink. Besides the wider carriage capability of the 3880, the inks last forever, or it seems. I kept track of what I've printed since getting it. I've printed 150 posters at 13x19, 75 large format prints at 17x22, almost 450 at 8x10, and during all that was experimenting with printing on metal, wood, and canvas. I bought this tank because I was finally down to about 25% on it and wanted a replacement ready to go. The rest of the tanks are no lower than 35%.Yeah, the tanks are $50 each, but when you consider how much longer they last than the ones in the consumer world, it really saves money in the long run. Amazon continues to be the best and most cost effective source for my Epson inks.

Just what I wanted.
Excellent price for authentic Epson ink. This ink is getting harder to find and I don't want to get a new printer!

genuine Epson
if this is actually the right ink for you, that's great, but beware of Amazon's inability to properly transfer Epson product numbers. in general, it's tough to get truly fresh-dated Epson ink, whether on Amazon, or local stores, or from B&H, but it doesnt seem to matter. Check local prices, which can sometimes be a bit lower.

Product misrepresented - incorrect model
Incorrect model will NOT fit Epson 3800!!I ordered ahead of when I needed it and found out too little too late that what shipped to me is the wrong model and it does not fit the Epson stylus pro 3800. There was a sticker on the package with the correct model number, T5809, however the actual cartridge is the T8509 (notice the 8 and 5 are transposed), which does not fit the epson 3800 printer. It will physically not fit into the printer slot because it is keyed differently (there are notches on the cartridge that align with plastic stoppers in the printer). The cartridge is physically the same shape as the correct one, aside from the keys. I thought, hey maybe if I remove the keys to make it fit, will work?? After removing the keys with a dremel and properly fitting the cartidge, I discovered that the cartridge will not electronically be recognized by the printer because of the microchip on top. It's a no-go, and wasted money.

Epson Printer = Epson Ink
Epson ink is the only way to go for my Epson printer. I've had this printer for over 10 years and it still is running strong!

Great Cartridge
I purchased this cartridge for my Epson Stylus Pro 3800. Although my previous Magenta cartridge did not say it was out (3% remaining), my print quality was degrading and I figured a new cartridge would allow me to clean my printer head and resolve the issue. Upon installing this and performing a cleaning, my printer is going just like new again. I have only used genuine Epson cartridges in my printer and have found them to be of a very high quality with prints lasting so far for 10 years with no fading. They say that these cartridges should be replaced every 2 years whether or not you have emptied them. The cartridge I bought is stamped March 2018 meaning this cartridge has been sitting for 7 months already. However, upon using these cartridges, I have not found that anything happens to them after two years. If you look at my picture, the Cyan cartridge was manufactured in 2012 and is still producing colors just fine.

No substitute
I am a professional photographer and use this ink in an Epson 3880. I have been using epson printers since my first dot matrix in the early 80's. I would never buy anything other than an Epson.Make no mistake, Epson earns a lot of money from these inks. When you buy a consumer grade Epson you are almost selling your soul to the Devil because the lowest price printers are sold at a loss and you are raped on the ink cost (over $1000./liter). Same with HP and the others. The professional grade printers are more economical on ink, but it still costs me over $500. to replace a full set of cartridges on my 3880.As expensive as the Epson ink is, the image quality is beautiful the performance is trouble free. Please save yourself the pain and trouble of trying to save money by using an aftermarket ink for photographic quality prints. Furthermore, there is proprietary software programmed into the Epson cartridges.
