~~Into the mind of a Serial Killer~~~
I have not read a novel that was as intense, intriguing and thrilling for a long, long time. The author was able to engage me from the beginning of this one and the twists and turns kept on coming. At times the pace was frenzied for me.Family secrets are a major part of this one and the reader will not be able to see the repercussions until later..much later. Reni Fisher was a profiler for the FBI and an excellent one until she took medical leave. Her parents, Benjamin and Rosalind play, a major role in this novel, as well... Daniel Ellis, Homicide Detective, also has an intriguing part. The author has a firm grasp on human nature and delves deeply into the mind of a serial killer. Several scenes in an autopsy suite will allow the reader to gain knowledge about how DNA evidence is gained after death and also how fingerprints may be obtained many years later. (I always appreciate learning new facts when reading a novel and this one had many). The descriptions of the Mojave Desert were outstanding and the scenes with backgrounds in nature were exquisite. Characters are well developed and were coupled with a multi-layered plot which indeed created a fascinating novel. One quote which I loved....'..,There was no starting over for people...only progression'. This, I feel, is so true in life and can apply it to my own. This is my First Read selection for June 2020. And, will add that this was an excellent choice for me and definitely one of my favorites so far..Most highly recommended.

As a child, Reni would lure the pretty girls to her father -- who killed them.
"There was no starting over for most people. That was a misconception. Unless a person's memory could be erased, there were no fresh starts, only progression."Reni Fisher knows how difficult it is to go forward and live anything resembling a normal life. When she was a child, her father, Benjamin Fisher, was arrested as the Inland Empire Killer. With evidence suggesting that he was responsible for over 20 murders, Ben Fisher now resides on death-row at San Quentin. After 30 years, Ben has reached out to the former investigator who handled his case but finds that he has retired. Instead, Daniel Ellis, homicide detective, comes to the meeting. Ben Fisher has decided to reveal the locations of his victims - in exchange, however, he insists that his daughter, Reni, be allowed to accompany him on the expedition. Now 38 years old, Reni has not visited Ben since his arrest. She had joined the FBI as a profiler, but events soon led to her resignation and escape to the isolated house in the Mojave Desert. She is running from her own demons because she had been used as bait and had indeed lured many of the victims to their deaths at the hands of her father. Sure, she was a child and should be held blameless, but she can't escape the guilt. She reluctantly agrees to accompany Daniel and Her father on the recovery effort. There are still many secrets and lies about what happened 30 years ago and Reni and Daniel are about to find out just what the truth will cost them. NO SPOILERS.This was excellent. It became obvious immediately that this was not the typical serial killer thriller. The narrative draws the reader in quickly and the great writing keeps you absorbed and focused. I really liked the character of Reni Fisher and grew to care about her and Daniel as events unfolded. My biggest disappointment is that I can't read the next in the series immediately as it won't be out until 2021. I loved the desert setting and the details enhanced the mood and the plot. Well done!Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for this e-book ARC to read, review and recommend.

Engrossing...a good read
Wow! A real page turner. Story is filled with dark family secrets and edge of your seat twists and turns.Reni Fischer is a young woman and a former FBI profiler agent. She decided to leave the agency because of flash backs from her childhood. Reni ‘s father , Benjamin Fisher , was a serial killer. He used his innocent very young daughter to lure his victims and then kill them.Thirty years later, Benjamin is on death row. Daniel Ellis who isa San Bernadino detective has been studying Benjamin’ case histories and trying to find all the dead bodies who were victims. Benjamin contacts Daniel and wants to make a deal with him. If he brings Reni to see him and gets a one day pass to go back to the desert, he will tell Daniel where all the bodies of his victims are. Daniel contacts Reni and convinces her to see her father after 30 years of no contact. This opens up a pandora,s box of dark family secrets andactions.Miss Frazier is a gifted writer. The pictures she paints of the Mojave desert and life in the desert as well as great research and believable attributes of her characters minds and actions keep the reader totally engaged. Can’t wait to see Book two of this series. I definitely recommend this book.Favorite quote. There was no starting over for most people. That was a misconception. Unless a person’s memory could be erased, there were no fresh starts, only progression.
