Didn't last a year...disappointing!
These shoes started off great. I love the brand and the Boa lacing system and the fit was fantastic. However, after a few months, the black material toward the toe started to crack and wear and over the course of a year, they're pretty much unwearable. Definitely disappointed in the quality of the product over time. I had a pair of Clorts last 3+ years with the same usage. Won't be buying another pair of Vasque any time soon.

Vasque shoe review
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Since I first tried a pair of Vasque hiking boots several years ago, I have been hooked on vasque. They are the best fitting and most comfortable boots and shoes ever. At least for me. These shoes are also comfortable, and a pleasure to wear all day. The Boa lacing system is a good idea, but the way it's constructed, it makes the shoes difficult to get on or off. The tongue of the shoe is attached to the sides with very little expansion room. So it remains tight even when the lacing system is fully loosened. A shoehorn is an accessory to have handy for these shoes. The laces are actually steel cables, and tighten as the dial is turned. It's possible to dial in a perfect fit, and it remains where it's set. Pull up on the dial, and the cable loosens immediately. There is a hook on the side of the shoe where the cable hooks over, and the cable can be unhooked to loosen the shoe a little more, and that makes it easier to get on or off. But then you have to hook the cable back up before tightening the cable. That negates the easy tightening intent of the Boa system.Time will tell if the shoe can hold up to the cable. The cable is a small diameter, and may result in premature wear on the contact areas. How long the cable will last is another unknown, and I don't know if the cable is user-replaceable.Take a look at the video, and much will become apparent.

Great Walking Around Shoe
I have wide feet and narrow heels, so I've been wearing Vasque shoes for over ten years. I normally buy the Velocity, but I bought these because they were cheap. I really love them. They are especially nice with travel, because instead of taking my shoes off, I can just lift the twisty thing and relieve the compression. Unlike other reviewers, I have no problem AT ALL getting them on and off, but I'm also someone who has to lace shoes up to the second hole because my ankles/heels are small. The support isn't as good as the Velocity shoes, and I wouldn't do serious training in these, but they are a great walking around shoe. I bought them a few months ago, and they don't show much wear.

Unusually small
I have gone through maybe a half-dozen Vasques since I started wearing them in the 1990s. All of my pairs have been the same size so I felt confident ordering these Aethers online. Having done so will make me re-think online shoe buying - I felt like Cinderella's fat sisters trying to get into the glass slipper.Nice shoe, the wire lacing worked a lot better than I thought they would. Unfortunately I could hardly walk in these much less properly try them out. They are going back but I would buy a new [larger] pair if they weren't being discontinued.

Wire system is awesome, fit is a little large, wear is less than expected
The wire system is awesome. The shoe seems a little larger for the size than I'd expect. But they are already starting to break down a little. Now...I purchased these for my son and he abuses footwear like there's no tomorrow. They've held up pretty well compared to other shoes, but not as well as I'd hoped from a Red Wing Shoe company. That said, these will probably be a re-ordered product for the utility alone.

Hard to put on
Okay arch support, but I replaced the insole with my own to provide even better support. Shoe fits well, especially for narrow feet. Comfortable for all day wear with or without socks. Only real problem is the opening of the boa and tongue is very small, making it a pain to get your foot inside. Once you manage to fight your foot into it, the fit and comfort is perfect.

These have been among the best wearing knock-about shoes I've ever had
These have been among the best wearing knock-about shoes I've ever had. This is a thrid pair to replace 2 pair I've worn out with almost daily wear over 3 years. I especially find the BOA lacing a great feature and will look for it again. The upper's fabric is the first thing to go. The molded upper reinforcement and the soles have lasted until the shoes are demoted to workshop/paint shop wear only.

coud have ordered my actual size
I went a 1/2 size up just to be safe, The toe area has a little more room due to it being rounded off rather than tapered so I could have ordered my actual size. The shoe's construction is slightly stiffer than my New Balance trail running shoes so I'll have to test which one I like better, I suppose the Vasque's offer more support. The dial tightening system is cool but I have a hard time loosening them up enough to comfortably slip my foot in. A little bit of a struggle to get them on but after that they fit well. Best thing is that they are SF Giants colors!

Very Comfortable
This is quite a different design to my normal trainers. After getting used to the new design with the laces as I nearly cut them off.very light and flexible with comfort to match.

Nice shoe
good running shoes, first time I've had this lacing mechanism and really pleased with how easy it is, it will be a godsend in the winter when taking them off with cold numb fingers.
