Came damaged. Not great at phonetic spelling.
Besides coming damaged I tried it out and I felt like you had to get pretty close to the actual spelling of a word rather than phonetic spelling. I put in “tho” for the word “though” and it didn’t suggest it. I put in “cood” for “could” and it didn’t get that one either. It did get “what” when I put in “wut” but it was fairly far down on the suggestion list. I didn’t try other features because it was too damaged to navigate options. I got it for my 5th grader who has a tough time with spelling and I don’t think it will be the right fit for my phonetic speller.

Not as advertised
I agree with Elaine in Texas and Cynthia... word shortage! Very disappointed as I bought it because the number of words advertised (380,000) it SO does not have! That's how many my big desktop Webster's has and this thing declines about every other request I make....and I'm a good speller!

Electronic dictionary
I was needing a quick reference dictionary, instead of, having to scroll through pages of a hard cover dictionary. A great electronic dictionary for the material I am reviewing. And has 380,000 words. Thank you!

Not worth the price.
I think there are probably better dictionaries out there. Functional but nothing special.

Very disappointed!!!!!
I purchased a similar item in 1986, It is still working (Franklin Computer Language Master. I purchased the Lexibook because it had additional features- e.g. Currency & Metric Converters. My major problem with this item-that I have not been able to use all the upper symbols except only through the calculator (+- and the number keys). Most of the words entered I received a response "Word is not in the word list".) e.g. Electrocultural- It is a new word probably when Lexibook was developed It was not a word found in any dictionary. --Using the Franklin I receive at least two suggestion- electrocuting electrocution. This item does not give me any hints as to possible words.

1 am comparing this dictionary to the, unfortunately discontued, Sharp PW -300 dictionary, that has partly malfunctioned after many years of usage. If tha Sharp was a Rolls - Royce then the Lexibook D650EN- 09 is equal to a three wheel bicycle. It is a dictionary, in my opinion, for very small children just learning English. It has such a small number of words in its memory. I get so many messages that the word I have chosen is not available. I use the dictionary for spelling and infomation as to the words origin. The sharp can tell you more information about the word that you would care to know. Lexibook gives little or no examples to explain the words meaning. Unfortunately one does not know how bad a device like this is until you begin to use it. Normally I would return this item, but once the Sharp's dictionary finally expires, what is there to replace it. The Lexibook is more than a dicionary, if it had spent more effort on the dictionay and less on the other features it may have become a better dictionary.

Disappointed with this. Doesn’t recognize words to spell for my gr 3 granddaughter, When typing in a phonetically it doesn’t recocognise basic words. They would take it back but the return address is in England. I have to pay postage…..this would cost as much as the device…. Think before you purchase if you live on a different continent than Europe.

I was really excited when this arrived today as I have other Lexibook products, and was initially pleased, but on further use, I am disappointed. Of four words I typed in for their meaning, three were not in the word bank; it cannot deal with the common nine letter anagram; even though the text can be adjusted, the screen is too small. It is attractive looking, easy to use and has clear instructions, but for the money it is not as useful as the Oxford or Franklin/Collins range.

a useful machine but perhaps the contrast adjuster could be a bit better.
