Can I use this to make the top of my tile coasters waterproof?

I'm not sure I'd do that....no matter how much a product touts that it doesn't "yellow" it does a little bit, so, no I wouldn't coat the top of your tiles. I would concentrate on the grout instead.

Can I use this for a top coat for milk paint?

No sure, I put it over chalk paint .

can this be used over bread to preserve for display

I would not think so. The bread would disintegrate

I used this in my kitchen on the island. It appears that oil from food/cooking has penetrated. Cant wipe clean. Maybe i need more coats? I did two

I don't think this is the right product to use on a kitchen island top if it's porous (i.e., marble). There are products that are made for this, just not this.

Looks unlikely when you first put it on - very milky. But it dries (quickly) to a completely transparent finish, not colouring the wood at all, just making it look more vibrant. Other quite unusual thing is it's a genuine satin finish. Since all the EU regs started restricting what manufacturers could put in varnish, I've had trouble with products advertised as matte or satin which come out as gloss. This is the genuine article, and you can get a flawless finish by building up the coats and then sanding with increasing fine sandpaper. 10000 grade takes you to a perfect sheen.
