A lot of potential for a great price
I went with the jazz kit with ideas in mind. I'm an amputee and play with one hand, so I added my main snare and use the provided snare at a sharp angle (approaching vertical) and offset to my main snare so I can get an extra glancing hit off the head. I'm planning on adding a 24" kick so I have double pedal options, but choking up on the beater and playing the smaller kick more like bebop for added color. The cymbals are nothing special but fine just to have. The kick pedal is surprisingly decent with some adjustment to dial it in. I would recommend tuning to the lowest possible tension (make it flat, bring it (the wrinkle) back; a fast improvement right out of the box. All in all this is a great value. Great compact size. Everything is comfortable once set up. A lot of functionality if you're interested in being creative. Solid buy. Would recommend.

Pearl Jazz Kit is Awesome!
My main criteria before buying the pearl roadshow jazz kit, was the amount of space it takes up, the sound quality, and Most importantly the value. Amazingly, it checks out fine in every one of them. You can put this thing anywhere. I have it tucked in the corner of my room, where It takes up roughly 25 sq feet of space (5'x5'), enough for someone who stands at 5'7 to groove comfortably in. This kit is a perfect example of showing the importance of tuning, versus the kind of shells or drum heads you have. While the shells are relatively cheap compared to most drums, and the stock drum heads are okay, with the right tuning methods, you can get these drums to sound amazing. If I can get these shells to sound great with the stock heads, I can only imagine how great they'll sound with better drum heads. The cymbals are complete trash but I still use em 😅. The toms are bright. The kick drum isn't as big sounding as a normal sized kick drum, but it's pretty punchy. The snare drum sounds good but lacks in the deep tones...I'm sure that's nothing a better drum head can fix. Overall it sounds great. You cannot beat the price! The quality of the hardware is good. Bass pedal is solid and smooth. The drum throne does its job. It comes with a neat stick bag and a couple pairs of sticks. My only wish is that the floor tom legs were a bit longer. In my opinion, you get just a little more than what you pay for with this kit. It's a cool little kit for anyone at any skill level. Perfect for anyone starting out, and anyone wanting a cheap kit they can upgrade with better heads and cymbals. Sounds great and TOTALLY worth the price!

Pearl Road Show 5 Piece Rock Drum Set
This is my second Pearl Road Show 5 Piece Drum Set I purchased online, last one in 2016. Every single item, all hardware including tension rods, drum shells, batter and resonant heads, stands, every single piece was in the contents of two delivered boxes to assemble the complete drum kit. The drum shells came with the burnt orange color, the color was not quite the orange I anticipated; it seemed a little more of a dark shade of red than orange, but that was OK. This may have been due to the photography shown online. The drum shells arrived in perfect condition not damaged or cracked, the machined edges were very well finished. I swopped some of the delivered packaged items such as some of the cymbal stands, the stock Pearl cymbals and throne with upgrades I purchased in the past. The kit included some extras like a very nice-looking Pearl drum stick bag, pair of drum sticks, a Pearl Drum set Poster that I mounted on the wall and a drum tuning key. I am using the stock Pearl drumheads, they seem OK for now but will upgrade them later in the year. The drums have a very nice tone once they are tuned to liking, the kit is a ton of fun to play and I would recommend any beginner or a drummer needing to gig on to purchase this drum set. I am very happy with this purchase and it was a very fair price.

Great kit! Amazing after a few replacements and adjustments!
Amazing drum kit for the cost! Wanted to give it five stars, but I have to be honest and drop it a hair due to the thinness and lack of durability of the 16 inch crash cymbal that came with the kit. Replaced with two 18 inch crash cymbals from Meinl and replaced all drum heads with Evan’s UV-2 coated snare and tom heads. Now the kit is a 10 Star kit!

Compact, all-in-one beginner drum set.
You get a lot for your money here. The drums, hardware, cymbals, sticks, stick bag, drum key, posters. Now for the quality.... The wrap on my bass drum shell came loose in one corner. I managed to press it back into round but it definitely worries me for future head changes. Will update if I run into any issues. With that out if the way, I can't complain about anything else. The bass pedal, hihat stand, and snare stand are impressive for this price point and being packaged with a beginner kit. Tom arm and cymbal arm are ok, they get the job done. Hihat cymbals are nice, not too loud and you make them pretty crispy. Crash cymbal is not as good as hihats, but still easy on volume which is great if that's a concern for you. The throne is on the smaller side, good for children, pre-teens. Keep that in mind if you're buying for someone bigger. I had no issues with shells or hoops on the drums themselves, everything tuned up nicely, even with the stock pearl heads. Volume is somewhat controlled, due to the smaller sizes, making it good for home jamming. Sound quality is what you expect from poplar at this price point, but it does have good tone, and if you know how to tune, these little drums can sound GREAT. Just throw some O-rings on these tubs, and they sound like a pre-EQ'd studio recording. Pearl has setup videos on their website that cover initial assembly, tuning, and even playing for these kits. You can tell they're trying hard to make this line accessible for newcomers, and anyone really. All in all, for the money you're spending you get decent quality, and being able to play right out of the box is a HUGE plus if you're a young newcomer who doesn't have the time, money, or stamina to be rodeo-ing with these drum companies, looking for good, dependable hardware that won't break the bank. If you're a parent looking to get beginner drums for your kid, or even an adult who just wants a small practice kit to groove on, this kit is a solid choice.

Learning to Drum at Fifty-One!
As a music junkie, I've always been interested in all musical instruments. I thought the drums were beyond me, especially at my age. But no amount of reason can stop an old lady from pursuing her dreams right? I decided to treat myself to this kit for Christmas. When it first arrived, I admit that I thought I'd made a huge mistake. The kit is stunning, I was able to figure out how to tune the drums, etc., but I didn't have much confidence in my abilities or lack thereof. Turns out I was right to trust my initial instinct. I have been playing the kit every single day since I got it and I've been able to pick it up quite well. Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks, as long as you're willing to be a little patient. This kit is really beautiful and professional. I've since gone and looked at kits in stores and haven't seen anything I liked any better, and at this price, you really can't go wrong. Like others have said and anyone who sells a kit will tell you, the cymbals and drum heads that come with a kit are usually pretty inferior. This kit can easily grow with you though, and I've already made a number of changes/additions. I immediately changed out the stock bass and tom drum heads with Remo heads and the snare with an Evans HD Dry. I also replaced the snare wires with PureSound Custom Pro. I purchased a telescoping cymbal stand and then bought a package of Meinl cymbals and hi-hats. The difference in sound quality between stock and upgrades is outstanding, even with lower-end cymbals. If you are getting old and creaky like me and have back problems, I highly recommend you spend the money on a solid throne because you won't want to drum for long on the stock throne unless you enjoy having a numb butt, sore tailbone and aching lower back. Likewise, your aging ears will thank you if you protect them with some Vic Firth isolation headphones. Special note: I opted for the 5 piece kit, so I have 3 floor toms. I found that having the two on the right was really awkward for me, especially in trying to learn fast fills. I ended up moving the middle tom over to the top right of my snare, so I have two floor toms there and the bass tom on the right. See the photos. First photo is the kit as originally laid out. Second and third are current setup. Bonus Cat Review: PROS: Is shiny. CONS: Is not for sits. Is loud. Is hateful. No. I write honest reviews because I count on them myself when making a decision about purchasing. If my review was helpful to you, please mark it as such. Thank you!

Great portable kit for beginners and intermediate drummers
You can't beat Pearl for the combo of quality and price. I wanted a smaller kit for portability, and noticed many local drummers playing these 4-pc "bop"/jazz/jungle kits, with great sound. I didn't want the hassle of a shell kit (drums only, no stands/pedals) even though I have some spare hardware. And I own another Pearl kit (have owned others over the years), so I know the quality is there. The kit comes complete: drums, stands, cymbals, pedals, even sticks. And it's packed in an AMAZINGLY small box. Some comments on the components: You can make cheap drums sound really good if the shells are solid and the edges are flat and smooth, good angle (for contact with the heads). Pearl has solid, high-quality shells. They're poplar, not maple or birch or mahogany, but the wood type matters less wrt sound than good construction and heads. The hoops and clamps are nicely chromed and solid. One big upgrade for any low-end kit is the heads. The included ones look ok, but I replaced the tom and snare heads with Remo and Evans heads, keeping the bottom reso heads and the ones on the bass drum. I haven't tuned them yet, but the sound is pretty solid on all drums, good bass, tight snare that needs a bit of damping. Hardware is double-braced and solid. I really like the bass pedal, even though I have others And the hi-hat stand is responsive. The cymbal boom where a 2nd tom would be is a nice touch. I added a 2nd boom with a crash that is clamped to the tom mount, nice and compact. There are lock collars on the tom/cymbal mounts to make teardown/setup easy on the go. The drum sizes are great for a portable kit with great sound. the 18" shallow bass has good punch but is much smaller than a typical deeper 22" one. The 10" tom and 14" floor tom give a good sound range, and the 13" thin snare has good impact when tuned (using a moongel on it, Evans reverse dot head). Always tune the drums properly and the sound will be great on these. And they're much easier to transport than my full-sized kits. OK, the #2 big upgrade for low-end kits is the cymbals. The included brass ones are, well, usable. But you generally need bronze cymbals for good sound (B8 alloy or the higher-end B20, for example). I'm using a mix of Wuhan, Sabian, Zildjian cymbals. You might get lucky with a good-sounding brass cymbal, but go bronze (buy used, to save $$$). The throne is a bit small and not super sturdy, but it's surprising they even included one. I'm using one I already had. I didn't comment on the looks because that's secondary for me, but it is a nice-looking kit. I have the gloss black, nice defect free finish on the shells, and the chromed hardware is shiny Overall, you can't get a good-sounding quality compact kit for anywhere near this price. Upgrading the top (batter) drum heads and getting good cymbals makes this a nice-sounding kit at a budget price.

Fantastic first kit. It will grow with you.
For the price - the best deal out there! This is a decent kit that comes with everything you need when buying your first drum set. What I like the most about this package is that it comes with all the hardware including pedals. I've upgraded a lot of things on my Roadshow kit, but I've kept the pedals as I'm perfectly happy with them. About the upgrades: I've replaced the heads all around (they come with clear heads on toms and bass). I'd say this drastically improves the sound, especially when you tune them properly. I also got PureSound Custom Pro snare wires recently and now I'm finally happy with the snare sound (I definitely recommend this upgrade). The bass drum hoop you see on the photos is a Gibraltar maple hoop (more about it below). I'm using my own cymbals here (the stock crash is ok, hi-hats are just bad, frankly). I also mounted a splash stack to the hi-hat stand using a Gibraltar Boom attachment clamp. The qualifier in front of the very first sentence of this review is important though: I've noticed some surface defects in the interior of the shells. Also, one of the bass drum hoops came in bent into an oval but Amazon quickly resolved that issue. I've contacted the customer service, we looked up a (high-end) replacement hoop that would fit this kit and they sent me a partial refund to order it. Therefore, no stars deducted there. Overall, this is the perfect first drum set purchase. I'm not playing gigs or doing recording sessions, this is my first kit, a practice kit, so for $350, I couldn't be happier. You can upgrade and modify things as you go depending on your taste and budget.
