The Holistic Beauty Book: With Over 100 Natural Recipes for Gorgeous, Healthy Skin

I love the way this book is organized, science-y, easy recipes, uncommon (but not esoteric) ingredients. Simple, very informative, with a current list of suppliers at the end of the book. The author is very passionate about being ecofriendly AND healthy, and I learned a great deal about the misuse of marketing terms (natural, organic, etc), as well as the problems associated with the distillation/extraction processes for essential oils. I am very excited to make some of these recipes.

At first glance, this book looked as if it was going to be just another collection of old-fashioned "kitchen" recipes - the same old stuff that teaches you how to make a beeswax body cream using borax & lanolin. But this one was suprisingly a bit different. The author focuses mainly on the sourcing and use of fair trade and organic ingredients - with most if not all of the recipes formulated to feed & nourish the skin. I have tried and liked the massage "Chocolate Orange Body Butter Bar" made with pure raw cocoa powder (she has a seperate chapter dedicated to chocolate body potions). She even has a rhassoul mud hair treatment (great for softening & detoxing the hair) along with a simple shampoo using African Black Soap. Overall, I highly recommend this book.

I like that it is a comprehensive book. It not only gives great recipes but it also lets you know what each ingredient does. So you have options if you need to make substitutions or modifications. And considering a lot of skin and beauty products use the same ingredients this really helps the pocketbook.

This is a great resource that I will turn to again and again. I loved that she started the book by discussing a healthy diet and life style for good skin. It doesn't matter what you put om your skin if you are damaging it from the inside. It was filled with information about the ingredients in each recipe.

I purchased this for my daughter and she loved. She is into natural products. She says it has great recipes and its easy to follow.

Was hoping for more of a "Make with your already owned kitchen staples" type of beauty book.

The book came in quickly and has a lot of good recipes for lotion making..I recommend this book for some one who wants to make pure lotions without chemicals.
