We felt awful when a neighbor gently but firmly approached us about our barking dogs. We didn't realize they were that bad, but we also couldn't hear them on the other end of the house, esp. with the windows closed. We recently had dog doors installed so our two could go in and out as they pleased. Well, I'm glad our neighbor spoke up because nuisance barking is not acceptable and we don't want it to be a wedge between us. We considered all kinds of products and had bad x/p with a shock collar 20 yrs. ago on our 1st Westie. We used it once and felt it was inhumane. We also thought about the citronella spray collars, but *we* would have to deal with the smell on the dogs, too! Our first choice was a sonic collar, but those can be bulky, and they already have collars w/tags plus harnesses for tie-out in the unfenced area on them where we let them out before we had the dog doors, & they still want to be out there on the patio. Voila-- the PetSafe outdoor unit. It's been less than a day, and after one bark our little ones appear to have noticed. I decided to set the unit for 30 ft. and put it on our wrought iron fence (the gate section, which they are usually in front of when they see activity on the street and are right up against, but they also travel to the opposite end of the fence and bark at people & dogs on the trail below, so I need to have the coverage. May eventually have to adjust to 50 ft.) They each barked once on separate occasions and all it took was a single bark. In fact, hours later I noticed a person walking a dog in front of the house and not even a peep from them which is a first. We have what looks to be a Chihuahua/Toy Poodle mix 2-3 YO (he's the worst offender) and a purebred Westie, just over 1 YO. They are very smart (the Westie easily took to the "Out!" training bells to be let outside on her tether, and the Mix scratches on the glass to be let out), so I'm pleased that they appear to "get it". However, the real test will be in the coming weeks, as the recently sold empty lot next door will have much activity with construction. While there is heavy machinery (e.g. backhoes, bulldozers,etc.) it won't be a good test as it's doubtful they will even hear the sonic device (on the plus side, they'll be drowned out-- LOL), but once it gets to humans hauling materials, hammering, etc. we shall see. I'll be sure to post an update after this unit really gets put to the test! If it turns out to be as good as we think it is, we won't hesitate to get a second one for the patio area. We turn it off at night and bring it inside. UPDATE: It has been two weeks, and our dogs have continued to behave, even throughout all the construction activity next door. I keep it at the "50 ft" setting, and have purchased a second one to cover the rest of the yard. Although you may not have the same results (reviews are certainly mixed), it's worth trying. You can always return it after a few weeks, and you will know pretty quickly whether it works on your dog. UPDATE #2: Well.... it's now been five months and I'm sad to report that it's not having an effect anymore. I'm glad we've had some delightful temps as I've been able to leave the windows open and can hear them barking. I immediately correct them through the screen while I can see that the red light is flashing, but I think they've gotten used to it and it doesn't bother them. I'm going to have to try something else.

I sit here at 6:50am on a Sunday not because I normally get up at 6:50am on a Sunday noooo. I’m up because the neighbors dogs were barking t their normal wake up time of 6:50am. Bark bark bark bark. I enjoy being startled awake every. Single. Morning. From these dogs I get to enjoy a heart rate that skyrockets from being startled awake followed by a migraine the size of Kentucky, followed by rage of epic proportions. Let me share the story of how I know this does not work on ALL dogs. I bought the “elite” out of desperation in hopes I would not have to confront my neighbors after 4 YEARS (yes you heard correctly 4 years) of this non stop barking. I test this out of the amazing box like Ralphie in A Christmas Story opening his air rifle. I immediately put the batteries in. OOOPS! I have a beautiful kind and VERY quiet golden retriever. He runs over to me like WTH momma???!? Runs to the door to do outside. Runs to end of driveway and just stares at house. I can’t get him to come back in. Oh. I but also Yay! It works! I’ll shut these neighbor dogs up once and for all. So now I have to plan. I’m 3 houses away from the dogs. So I plot to sneak over to my first neighbors house at night. I’ll hang it in their pine tree, they will never notice! So night comes. I “sneak” over to my neighbors back yard. Give away # 1. We have 4 feet of snow so now there are track to the tree. Oh well it’s March it has to melt soon. Keep going! I think to myself. So I get up to the tree and find a good Branco. Suddenly BARK BARK BARK BARK BARK! These dogs are like 5 feet away from me, behind a fence luckily. But they are supposed to be inside for the night!! So they scare the crap out of me with their blood curdling barks. And then, I smell cigarette smoke and see a tall silhouette out of the corner of my eye. It’s the dog owner staring at corner of his lot watching me hook up this thing. So now the dogs are out of control, he’s sitting there and in a spineless tone that you can’t even hear above his dogs death barks “hey be quiet”. Then he sees me in the dark, just stands there looking at a tree trying to pull a branch through the hoop it comes with, like this this doesn’t look weird at all. So he says “Uh, sorry about my dogs”. This unleashed the beast in my 110 pound 5’1” frame. Oh I lectured him. I told him how I am losing my mind with his dogs. He needs to control his dogs barking as all the neighbors are sick of it. That I’ve called the cops 10 times and still he does nothing!! He responds in a Forrest Gump like tone “Yeah we tried training but it doesn’t work” (dogs are still barking at this point!) so I say “Get a bark color! They have ones that spray, emit a high pitch tone or shock them…Control your dogs!!” And I walk away (using my same snow path I made going directly to my house). So now I sit and wait. 6:50am next morning arrives. BARK!….and then nothing. Omg this might work!! I celebrate. I was feeling relief for the first time in years not being woke up by satan dogs. Then…Sunday morning. I’m startled awake whilst dreaming. I sit there and I count…30 barks. 10 minutes later. 30 barks. Oh! Just now! More barks. I’m about to have a coronary. Last ditch effort will be to ask my passive aggressive neighbor if I can hang this on their fence to get a coupe feet closer. Now these neighbors…those barking dogs attacked their golden costing thousands in vet bills and traumatized their dog to this day. Hopefully they will let me hang this on their fence. If that does not work I am returning this. BTW. 2 days later my dog is still staring at me like “Why did you hurt me?”

Doesn't work at all, don't waste your time. Other than a red light coming on, who knows if it works?

Pésimo, yo creo que tirar mi dinero a la basura hubiera funcionado más, es difícil de programar, los perros se asustaron la primera vez y después lo ignoraron por completo, pero lo que más me molestó, es que el dispositivo se activa con, literal, cualquier sonido, entonces, realmente no es correctivo, porque si fuera molesto para el perro solamente cuando el perro ladra, entendería la función del aparato, pero si el aparato se activa con absolutamente cualquier sonido que rebase los decibeles a los cuales está programado, el perro realmente no sabe ni de dónde viene el sonido ni por qué, es como llamarle la atención por hacerse del baño adentro de la casa, cuando no lo está haciendo. Me arrepiento de haberlo comprado, ahórrense el dinero y úsenlo en algo que realmente funcione.
