The MP5 Submachine Gun (Weapon, 35)

A must for any HK or SMG fans and owners
Plenty of good info on this legendary smg, including the development of the rifle and its becoming a benchmark for all SMGs to be compared to. There is also plenty of information and photos of the various models and the development of the subgun and the others that HK had hoped to be a replacement for it after 50+ years of service and why they have not been able to completely phase out the mp5 from military and police use. This is definitely one of the better sources of information about the mp5s development, history, and replacements over the years. But thankfully it is still in use and loved by its operators in law enforcement and military units.

Thorough development and usage history of the gun. Not much info on dimensions and performance.
Thorough study of the development of the MP5 submachine gun. The book describes in detail the various models produced over the years. It also describes the various organizations that use it. For the most part, it's used by national police or counter-terrorism units. It's not typically a military combat weapon.Unfortunately, there are no tabulations of dimensions and performance. The author also assumes that the reader already knows the difference between a submachine gun, an assault rifle, and a machine gun as there is no discussion of it. For those of you who don't already know: a submachine gun uses 9 mm x 19 or 20 mm or so pistol rounds, an assault rifle typically uses 7.62 or maybe 7.92 mm x 33 - 37 mm short rounds, and a conventional machine gun uses 7.62 mm or 7.92 mm x around 57 mm long rounds.

It's a miss...
So many technical errors I don't know where to begin. Rivals Duncan Longs "Hk Assault Rifle Systems" for most misinformation in a single book.Skip this one and find Frank James Heckler & Koch's 9Mm Mp5 Submachine Gun which is probably the definitive work on the subject. Used copies can still be had for less than $100 and well worth it.I sometimes wonder if these authors who write a book on every firearm from every video game produced have ever even held the actual weapons. I don't know where they get some of their information but if they just went to the HK website they would find out some of their assertions are wrong. Some of their stuff is more wrong than wikipedia which I suspect is one of their sources.

Informative
Describes the weapon made famous by the SAS . Spoiled somewhat by quotes by the author of 'Good Guys Wear Black'. A gung -ho trigger happy Met armed police officer who did his bit to soil the reputation of that force.Other than that well worth reading.
