can this be programmed using another remote?

It has the numerical pins (10) that you have to press to the enter the code for your gate, so I don't think it is something you could do by remote.

Very easy to replace batteries ,just lift cover and that it.

Does this work for 8 digit parking gates?

I not 100% but I would think NOT. It has a10 key coding system which would not allow a perfect match for your codes
