Splash guard gave satisfactory service for 12 years - new design is slightly different and better!
The new design is better than the old design! With the new splash guard design, there is not as much need to push food through the guard manually -- just turning on the faucet flushes food into the disposal. I bought this InSinkErator splash guard in 2011 and am replacing it in 2024. After twelve years the 2011 guard still has a decent combination of flexibility and stiffness. Although it shows no tears, it seemed to need cleaning more often than when new. Perhaps the surface became micro-rough but this was not perceptible to my fingertips. So I just ordered it again with desire that the quality remain as good. These are the changes I find: The weight dropped from 1.1 ounces to 0.9 ounces. The height of the cone changed from 40 mm to 34 mm. The new cone is much reduced in stiffness. The mouth of the new guard has a bit simpler shape without as many folds in the rubber. Will the new design work? Yes! The differences I found do not seem to significantly affect the function of stopping splash back. My guess is the new model will not last as long as the old. The price I paid in 2011 was almost twice what the new one cost me in 2024 so I am not complaining about the value received. My old InSinkErator goat mouth still looks presentable so I plan to keep it awhile in the cabinet under the sink just in case the new goat mouth causes trouble.

Restored my sink!
This splash guard is a game-changer for my kitchen! It fits perfectly over my garbage disposal and completely eliminates those annoying splashes when I'm grinding food scraps. It's also super easy to remove and clean, which is a must-have for me. No more messy countertops! Highly recommend.

Visually I had doubts. Functionally perfect.
The one I received did not look like the picture and that was disappointing; although I did know they replaced the one in the picture with a newer design. When I took it out of the package my first though was heck no, this is so flimsy that someone is going to grind silverware without even trying. I was in the middle of a remodel so I was going to use it as a place holder for the real-deal. Well, I was mistaken and it works just fine. There are a few caveats to that statement though. I bought a new InSinkErator disposal so the 14 year old grind was a lot less noticeable by default. It was still a Badger 5 so not anything to write home about. The collar is still "new" so it does not have many miles on it yet. If it gets dirty, out it goes and gets replaced for a few bucks. For those that have yet to dive in to this world of sludge, the InSinkErator has a flange that is part of the install. You have to cut away the flange of the original collar and keep the ring of rubber. This collar is a secondary part. If you do not cut away the flange of the original part, this is a double layer and will not let things flow correctly. I filled our sink with 10 gallons of boiling and ice cold water and let it go crazy. The sink drained as fast as the plumbing would allow, so about 45 seconds. I left water running for 20 minutes at a full 7gpm and still no issues above. Below I found a joint not tight though and that's another learning curve. So visually I had doubts. Functionally it was perfect.

For some reason my disposer got installed without one of these shields and that was a disaster. This fit perfectly and does the job. No more water (and I don’t want to image what else) splashing out when the disposer is running but still easy to feed waste in. And no more spoons slipping in unexpectedly.
