Great for the most part
I received this in December 2008 as a Christmas present. Before that, I'd been making due with an entry-level Euro Pro that jammed consistently. It was also a gift, and I didn't have the money to buy one myself. I was always afraid to sew anything ambitious on that machine, so right off the bat, the Singer is a 1000% improvement. It hasn't jammed once.Pros:-I love the drop-in bobbin. I don't even mind having to adjust the thread myself while it's winding, either (as another reviewer pointed out). It's just so much easier than on my old machine.-It handles all fabrics, thick and thin. Just make sure you're using the right needle (of course)!-The buttonholer and button sewer are marvellous - soooo easy! And I used to *hate* sewing buttonholes. Lowering and raising the feed dog is a snap, too. Very convenient instead of having to use a special plate.-Despite that this isn't an "embroidery" machine, the stitches it does are very lovely, practical, and it doesn't have so many fancy stitches that I'll never use. I didn't buy this to be an embroidery machine, but the decorative stitches it has are very nice.-The see-through bobbin plate is very handy.-The blind stitch works wonderfully! My old machine would only do a reverse blind stitch. This simply wouldn't work with the blind hem foot I had for that machine. Hemming is super easy now.-If all the little prongs on the automatic needle threader are in just the right spot, it works like a charm. (see cons)Cons:-If all the little prongs on the automatic needle threader are NOT in just the right spot, it won't work at all. The center of the three prongs is the one that hooks the thread. It must line up just so, so that it goes into the hole on the needle. Once it's through the needle hole, hook the thread, and pop it through. I had to manually bend mine a little bit to get it in the right spot.-I've started making my first quilt. I know this isn't the best quilting machine out there, but I somewhat expected better results. I bought the correct walking foot for the machine, but it just doesn't feed the material while I'm quilting. I have to manually pull the quilt through. This is frustrating, and I can't quilt as accurately as I'd like. Perhaps I'm just doing something wrong here, but it's like there's not enough pressure being exerted by the walking foot to make the quilt advance through the machine.-The rolled hem foot isn't all that great, either. It's easier (seriously) to just press and pin a narrow hem myself. And even that's a great challenge - but easier than the rolled hem foot.Overall, this is a great machine that I've already used on dozens of projects (clothes to curtains), and I plan to keep it around for a long time.

Dear to my heart
This was the first sewing machine I've ever bought. And after so many years with her, she was easy to use, yet had many features that was readily available in case you were ready to move on to harder challenges. She was very reliable. I was going back to the fashion program and she got me through the whole way. Very thankful. My teachers say digital sewing machines fail faster than the non-digital ones, but that hasn't happen yet in the 10 years I've had her. There definitely is a learning curve though. You need to watch videos on how to use a sewing machine and read the manual. Also you must clean it and oil it from time to time to maintain its life and use. I love this machine lol and happy she's in my life😆

This makes sewing fun!
I was in the middle of a sewing project when my old mechanical sewing machine of 30 years finally gave out. When I went searching for a new machine, I didn't look far before finding this one. Now even though the new machine bodies are all plastic, while my old one was all metal, I didn't mind since there had to be some improvement in abilities. While I don't have to move the machine, it is light enough to carry. The machine arrived quickly, packaged well. It came with a DVD to help with quick start-up. Besides coming with several feet and tools, it also came with 3 bobbins. I ordered extra bobbins.I was able to pick right up with my project, and the sewing was a dream. It runs smoothly. Everything is push-button, and I'm sure there are stitch features I will not use. Winding the bobbin was a cinch, and the drop-in bobbin area is so nice. The price was right for me since I had paid a little more for the old metal machine years ago. I didn't need to go looking for a very expensive brand.I read reviews and features of this machine, and decided this one was the best fit for me.I highly recommend the Singer 7470 Confidence.

I'm so excited when I received this machine. This is so powerful and quiet so I'm very satisfied with it. Thank you for your kindness and hardworking. But deliverence is not perfectThe box and styroform is damamaged and broken. I was so confused whether I should turn it back or I open the box. But when I openedthe box the machine was perfectly functional.

Great machine with great customer support from singer
I love his machine, I upgraded my machine and was fortunate to find a seller who used it as a demo but refurbished it to a new machine. It came with all the parts in the original box and limited warranty. There is so many features to it so it’s worth the time learning how to use it properly. I can see using this machine for a long time. I took a sewing class where the instructor bashed the brand machine who basically told me it was a cheap model. I am here to tell you it’s an awesome machine and because I love sewing I see no reason to spend thousands of dollars on some if the expensive bands. Singer is awesome and has such great customer support makes this machine well worth the money.

it works
I bought this as an upgrade of another Singer that I own, there are some things I like about this machine, the needle threader is better and doesnt bend out of shape like my other, I like the auto tension, better lettering than my other machineI wish it would have the variable sewing speed option, but the pedal is not super sensitive so it is relatively easy to control the speed, the stitches are hard to find when needed and usually have to refer to the book, not alot of presser feet options, very noisy when sewing, the backstitch option is a pain as you always have to keep your finger on it in order for it to work, as well it is the "tie off" button to lock a stitch which I still cant seem to get it to work, while it makes fabulous button holes the presser foot for making them is much more complex to use than the others I have used in the past
