Superb. I really loved the book. It will tell you an unheard story. And this book is the source of our national song Vande mataram.

There is considerable similarity between the facts contained in Glegg’s ‘Memoirs of the Life of Warren Hastings’ and the historical documents of that time.The revolutionary ideology of ‘Anandmath’ worked to awaken social and political consciousness. ‘Vande Mataram’, a song from this novel, later got the privilege of becoming the national song of India.From the past few months I had an inner urge to jump in the literary masterpieces of my own country India and I had heard a lot about Bankim Chandra Chatterjee so I decided I will get few of his works! Amongst his works the ones which got my attention the most were Anand Math and Mrinalni, so I got them both.This is a one of a kind book, for me I have never read a book like this one in the past, so each page of this book was like a peek into Indian history and taught me more about the people of India and how they not only struggled against external forces but also gave them a mouthful several times even while being at disadvantage in many of the encounters! The writing done is phenomenal, this book has drama, love for one's own country, thrill, a touch of romance, elements of unbelievable courage and suspense which leaves the reader in awe. The persona of all the characters in this book was of utter depth and had several layers to it, something which I have found only in the best of the books.If someone wants to read this one, its also available in english and I have shared few lines from the book both in Hindi and in English for you to contemplate whether or not you want to give this book a try!
