Excellent

Insight Guides are the best if you are interested in what a city has to offer and it's history. The New York guide is excellent and covers all the major attractions and surrounding areas with a lot of excellent pictures and details on how to get the most out of your visit and the best way to use local transportation. If you don't like reading the history of the people and how New York grew up, then there are other guides that are just as good.
