Easy mod to get these shifters to shift from the drops. Awesome brifters, now even better!
These are great shifters but the positioning of the thumb shifter makes it impossible to shift when riding the drops. Which is too bad because with the shift indicator and great thumb shifting hood position these are truly unique and really nice shifters. But I figured out a way to get the best up both worlds using this awesome stuff https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019EZD9WW/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_AWjgzb3GY6RVM. It's moldable plastic that at 100 degrees fareinheight (or less) is hard as any regular plastic but when heated to 150 degrees becomes pliable like play dough. Using this I was able to mold an extension onto the existing shifters that is angled perfectly to allow me to use the thumb shifters when riding either the hoods or the drops (see the pictures) . It works remarkably well too and I am truly loving the shifters now. The only reason I can think of why Shimano didn't do this themselves is because no one would buy their higher end shifters since these have more features. I am very happy with this mod. Hope you give it a try and find it helpful

standard basic brifters but wonderful quality nonetheless.
These shifters are low end compared to higher models however, they get the job done and personally are one of my favorites. These 3x7 shifters are really nice for putting on a cheap bike which did not have proper shifters on it.dualwielding as shifters and brakes at the same time they get the job done and reduce the amount of movement my hand has to do in order to shift. for being low end they are still wonderful shifters. The shifting is on point and they have no hang ups.the needle in the front that tells you what gear you are in can sometimes be a little hard to see but normally I have no issues. The next road bike I get, I will be getting these same shifters as they are a wonderful buy.

Not compatible with Tourney TX low band front derailleur (need a road Tourney A073 FD), but works great once dialed in
Picked these up as an upgrade for a franken bike that already had a tourney A073 crank, an old FD-TZ front deraileur, and an old shimano TZ rear derailleur, as I figured I'd at least try to match the shifters with the rest of the groupset. I absolutely loved the upgrade and use of brifters (as the thumb shiifter is pretty intuitive), and with a self install didn't have any trouble dialing in the rear derailleur.Still, after lots of hours of fiddling and tuning, I couldn't get the front derailleur to reliably shift between all 3 gears on my front tourney chainring and ended up taking it into my LBS hoping they could tune the sucker. After a few more attempts, it took both trying a new tourney FD before I realized that I needed to get the tourney A073 front derailleur (not the mountain one) before it would pull the correct amount and work properly.Still, it is awesome way to upgrade to a brifter setup from old school shifters, or an older SIS setup.

Good brifters
I bought these to replace my hybrid's Shimano Tourney flat bar shifter/brake combos because I did not like the wide flat bars that were installed from the factory. To me this hybrid just felt like a road bike with flat bars and and lower gearing and would do well with some drops. I cut the bars shorter, added some bolt on drops and installed these ST-A070's along with some tektro in-line levers on the flat part of the bar for slower going traffic situations. The installation was easy, I had issues setting up my front derailleur but I believe it was due to the new cables stretching and my own goodballishness. (I didn't use the cables they were included with these, I bought orange jagwire)Also I believe these are meant to be used with mini-V brakes or something because the brakes are nowhere near as powerful as they were with the original set up, but I actually like it, they are more forgiving to me and having to do an emergency stop won't send me flying over the bars into orbit. I really love the way these feel, it's a comfortable position to keep my hands in predominantly. My bike feels racier and I have more confidence riding after modifying it.It's a good product, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to add something like these to their bike as long as it is already using Shimano since I'm not sure if they would work with a different manufacturers stuff.Only complaint I really have is that there are no indications on the shifter of what gear you are in, it's just an orange pointer. It works, and I started getting used to it but it's still goofy. The ones I replaced had numbers printed on them

These shifters dialed in very quickly, and shift as ...
These shifters dialed in very quickly, and shift as crisp as any of the higher end stuff on any of my other road bikes, front and back. I Upgraded a 1995 Sirrus from down tube shifters to these. Don't throw that old steel frame in the recycle bin yet. With this kind of stuff on the on the market those older bikes can be brought up to date, and save a lot of money. .

Great Levers, Great Cables, Clunky Downshift, Stingy Ferrules
Feels solid. Has trim. Functions. I was surprised to get brake cable/housing. Comes with very nice cables.I'd give it a 5 but the downshift is extremely clunky, the included rear brake cable wasn't long enough & it only came with two 5mm ferrules.Thankfully, I didn't think it came with break cable/housing & ordered a set at the same time. So, I was able to get everything finished, but... Would have been nice to be able to use the included cable with the included housing & have enough ferrules... May fit your frame, but beware. Might as well pick up a set of cables while your at it. Just to be safe.

Comes with new cables and everything you need to install besides cable cutters. EASY TO INSTALL.
Going from shimano shifters on the center I'd the handle bars its nice to be able to.o shift and keep my hands on the breaks. Since people complain about not being able to downshift while fe b hands are in the lower position and this is not completely true. The 7 speed the brake lever shifter reduces while the thumb trigger increases. So,.. with a small bit of getting used to you can reduce gearing and they are extremely easy to.o use. They include brake and shifter cables and plastics and wire stops. Don't buy the extra cables.
