Great Book, with and without kanzashi templates
This book is awesome, and the instructions are very clear. I made these flowers on my first attempt. There are instructions for 16 base flowers, and the base flowers may then be combined to create innumerable different flowers. I am not sure why other reviews say you must buy templates to make these flowers. The flowers in the picture were made without templates. Five of the sixteen base flowers can be made with templates, but instructions show you how to make similar flowers without templates. To get started with the flowers shown, I just used scrap cotton fabric, a needle, scissors, a ruler, and thread. You can get "fancier" with buttons, bias tape, or craft flower centers. The book also has super cute project ideas using the flowers for jewelry, gift bows, and other accessories.

Useful and Inspiring
This is a lovely book. It's best feature is a two-page spread with images of all the flowers in the book. Also included on those pages are the yo-yos, rosettes and a pumpkin (think tomato pincushion). The name and page number for instructions are noted on the spread. This visual index is greatly appreciated, and fabulous for comparison side-by-side. Flower numbers 12 through 16 are made with the Clover plastic templates. The book does a better job than Clover does to illustrate the range of outcomes for their products. The later section of projects actually has several that I'm interested in trying. They incorporate a number of different fabrics which then displays the outcome they produce, which vary quite a bit. Very illustrative. For instance, pure silk glistens, but has little body, and as such lays flatter than other options. Great for some uses, less so for others. Other projects display use of patterned fabric combined with solid. Here within are very good examples which save much trial and error over poor choices. The book has spent several evenings beside me since it arrived, and I now wait for some better fabric choices and embellishments such as faux pearl buttons for the flower centers. This is the very book I hoped for, and I have rarely been so thoroughly pleased with a craft instructional. My medical hair loss has led me to become a hat person, and custom flower adornments made by myself adds a special flair where once was my hair. I'm embracing a new style from a generations'-old Japanese art, beautifully translated by this lovely book.

Easy to follow directions hard to see print
The black lettering is fine, the color print doesn't provide enough contrast for an easy read.
