The Winter of Red Snow (Dear America)

Abby really sees how hard and horrible war is
I read this book when I was a kid, and have read it over and over again over the years. Abigail is growing up during the revolutionary war, and has seen her share of sorrow. She's lost baby brothers over the years, seen hurt and dying soldiers, and is worried about her friend, Lucy. Abby wants to do something to help with the war effort, and gets her chance when Martha Washington has Abby and her family help her out with the sick soldiers and the laundry for them. Abby really sees how hard and horrible war is, but how important it is to get what they're fighting for. It's funny to see Abby's reaction towards Martha Washington. Abby sees her as many young girls see their favorite celebs. She finds Martha plain but...well, I wont spoil it for you. Honestly, it's a dear America book that has held up over time. I'm really disappointed that some of the hardback dear America books are becoming out of print

Excellent book!
A young girl's perspective on the harsh encampment at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777 brings the story to life for young readers. I taught the book to second language students entering middle school. They needed frequent vocabulary and context scaffolding, but they loved the story.

Interesting Story
Book arrived in excellent condition, and it arrived quickly. Nice story . . . enjoy author's writing style. I liked the bit of history mixed with the fictional story.
