Very pleased
I love my Vitamix blender that I purchased reconditioned. It works like a dream, came with a recipe booklet, instruction guide, and DVD, which were very helpful. I spent many hours looking for a good blender to really break down my fruits and vegetables to increase my veggie intake and also because I was preparing for oral surgery and I wasn't sure if I would be on a liquid diet or not. The tamper is very helpful too; when the ingredients don't want to blend, using that to gently move the ingredients around makes all the difference. It is meant to be worked up to run on high speed for maximum cooling benefits of the fan for the machine. It is a little loud, but not too loud for my sensitive ears. I had a $30 blender that I broke, which is why I decided I wanted one that was a better quality. A few people on my Facebook page recommended the Ninja, but I didn't choose the Ninja because of having to take it apart to clean and the sharp blades risk of cutting myself....the Vitamix is easy to clean, which is huge when you're feeling like poo after surgery; all you do is fill it half-way with warm water, add a drop of dish soap, and let it run, and it mostly gets it clean. Sometimes it needs a wipe-out, but no big deal, and no taking things apart and having to put it back together again. I read blogs and hundreds of reviews on different websites about the Vitamix because I was leery of ordering it due to its price....much more than I've ever spent on a blender or other kitchen appliance, and I wasn't sure it would be worth it. I'm very pleased with the performance of my Vitamix. I've read that some people don't like how loose the blending container sits on the machine stand, and it is rather loose, but it is fine for use and I've had no problems. I just wouldn't recommend picking it up off the stand while running the machine ---- common sense, now! I recommend reading the instructions thoroughly and watching the DVD, which helped me understand better how to use the Vitamix --- if I'm going to pay this price, you better believe I want to be sure I know what I'm doing! After using it to make several smoothies, I am very pleased with the incredibly smooth consistency of the smoothies. I made a soup in it once, and it was creamier and frothier than a normal soup, but that's just because it's been aerated; I think it tasted good. I'm looking forward to using this Vitamix for many years to come, I"m very happy with it, and I love it. If you're wondering whether or not to buy this, do your research, and I say if you can afford it and it suits your needs, give it a try! And reconditioned is just fine too. I saved for a few months to get mine, and I haven't regretted it.

Worth It
I’d always held back from purchasing a Vitamix due to cost. I finally was able to buy one via the “refurbished” program, and it is very much worth the expense!I used to have a Ninja, which certainly did well with turning large whole foods into smoothies, but that was really all I could do with it. So I made occasional smoothies. However the Vitamix is capable of so much more that I find myself using it much more frequently.EXAMPLES:—I can now blend flaxseed and chia seeds into my smoothies, and since I try to consume those daily, I am now daily making smoothies. (It also helps that cleanup is significantly easier.)—I like to make my own salad dressing, and I can easily emulsify in the Vitamix. (*Note that you can do this at low speeds in the 5200; however, Vitamixes with the short square container that fit under the cabinets cannot do this nearly as well—I tried one of those at a friend’s house and they just splash everything around in the container, whereas the tall slim container of the 5200 creates a vortex perfect for emulsifying at low to medium speeds).—The Vitamix is brilliant and making smooth, silky frozen desserts. (They say it makes “ice cream”, but I would not say that, since ice cream doesn’t require previously frozen ingredients, and something like chocolate or vanilla ice cream you could not make in this – only frozen desserts which contain previously frozen fruits).Yes, the Vitamix cost two times the amount that I spent on the Ninja; however, it works so much better and it’s so much easier to clean and easier to use that it is well worth the price.

Great machine does NOT replace a juicer like other reviews alluded, but GREAT machine for everything it does.
There are a lot of great in depth reviews on this so I'm not going to worry about writing another one BUT I WILL WRITE THIS ONE EXCEPTION. Some people have dissed their juicer and said that this replaces it. No. This does NOT. I have an Omega 8006 Juicer that is AMAZING and for juice it is the BEST. This machine on the other hand is THE BEST for smoothies and all kinds of other stuff, soup, etc. Juice, no. I am certain it will become one of my favorite kitchen appliances for healthy tasty treats but I will love my omega juicer equally for its healthy amazing juice. I am very fortunate to have both in my kitchen and they are both very good for very different things. One major difference I can see over a smoothie and juicer is in a juicer you can throw in 3 apples, a head of broccoli, 4 carrots, 1/3 head of cabbage and you get a bunch of living enzymes and vitamins and drink it in a 12 ounce cup.If you chucked all that stuff in this vitamix you'd end up with SOOOO MUCH that you'd have a VERY hard time drinking it in one sitting ALTHOUGH you do get the benefit of no waste and ingesting the pulp (which is quite healthy for you as well) I have also found that this vitamix does a great job at making that pulp very palette friendly (coming from a guy who tends to not like pulp)The juicer performs in a much more condensed, pulp free, form so its nutrient provisions are clearly different. You can potentially get a LOT more nutrients out of a juicer (but will lose the health benefits of the missing pulp) You can also ingest these nutrients without making you sick, which if I drank 40 ounces of smoothie I might just ralph. I can handle the 12 ounces of juice that would be made from a juicer using the same ingredients. That said, this is a wonderful quality machine for what it does and I would recommend it to anyone looking to make their lifestyle healthier and just have a quality machine. Something that I feel like my grandma would have from back in the days when they made quality everything.
