This is not a game by itself. The game maker changed the format and size of some of the cards from Armada a while back. This pack updates your old cards to the new common size and format. If you or the person you want to buy this for already has Armada and knows how to play it, this is a nice gift or treat for yourself.Armada is not a super hard game to learn at its base, however, there are a ton of upgrades that all interact with each other, and learning all of those and how best to field them is another story. That takes quite a lot of time to learn. Videos can be found though to help out with that.

It's an incredible game. Definitely recommend finding a group that plays near you to learn the ropes. Can definitely start with just this, don't need to buy a bunch of expansions right away.

So happy with this card pack! All the upgrades that were available in the different Armada Wave, Ship Expansions! I’m so glad FFG released these in a single box set and at normal card size, no longer requiring three different sleeve sizes and storage solutions! I had a hard time getting certain ships AND their cards, and in a few instances, didn’t want to purchase a ship “just” for the cards I’m so happy to finally get the entire collection of Officers, weapon and ship upgrades. So much better having normal sized cards, besides the ship cards, than the mini cards from the original core set and expansions.

If you like space chess with more complex rules then this game is for you. The miniatures are made really well but you will want to invest in a way to transport them with out breaking some of the pieces.

This is a fantastic value. And will enableYou to see what upgrades are worth using. Great recon for beginner and advanced players.

Definitely a must if you don't want to get all the ships.

Could I have played Armada without these cards? Sure.Could I have just used online build-tools to print out the army list? Sure.Could I have just used the smaller cards that came with the game and expansions? Sure.But if you have a little extra spending money, this is the equivalent of two burger-combos at your neighborhood fast food joint, but the bigger cards makes life easier on older eyes... and you get all the expansion cards without having to buy the models (which is great for those on a 'slight' budget and can't just buy them all)
