Magnet in case causes Kindle problems
I bought this case as a gift for my mother-in-law for Christmas to go with her new Kindle Fire HD. I spent several hours on her new Kindle setting it up, loading stuff for her, etc. since she is not very tech savvy - all without this case on the Kindle and the Kindle functioned perfectly. On Christmas, she was so excited that she got a Kindle, and that her case was purple (her favorite color), that she wanted to try it out right away. As soon as she put this Origami case on her Kindle, the Kindle started randomly shutting off. We tried everything - maybe she was accidentally pressing the power button? Nope, still shut down hands free. Maybe it was the Angry Birds app she was running? Nope, it shut down in a book and looking at photos, too. Maybe the Kindle is just defective? I didn't think that was the case since I had been on it for hours with no problems the day before. After some internet searching, it turns out the magnet in the case is just strong enough to cause problems (or at least the one in our case was). As soon as we removed the case, she was playing Angry Birds with no problems for the rest of the evening. Needless to say, I ordered a new purple case (without a magnet) for my mother-in-law and I am returning this Origami Case.

For the Kindle Fire HD released October 2013.
It is imperative that you figure out which Kindle Fire you own and when it was released. Frankly, amazon should delete the negative reviews when it is obvious customers purchased the wrong case. If not for those reviews, this case would get 5 stars as it should. Fits perfectly - adding 1 mm all around the sides and back while maybe 3 mm to the top because of the cover. A bit of a struggle to snap the case on (enough to know it's secure but not so much you think it's damaging the kindle). Best to place the kindle in along the bottom long side (across from where the cover folds back), pinch with one hand. Then slightly bend one of the top corners away from the kindle and pop on. Repeat on other side. I played the "Tupperware corner chase" game for a little bit, but once it clicked in place, it was obvious it's not flopping out of this case. I was able to figure out the origami fold within seconds of bending them around (and a memory of the picture of it from the internet). The landscape view slips maybe 1/5 of the times I place it on the counter-top. The portrait view is pretty solid, probably because of the sharper angle.I have absolutely no complaints for this case - it was pricey so I went with the polyurethane case but I find I like it much better than the leather case (which I saw at another store). It adds so little bulk compared to the addition of much more security. And, in a completely unrelated quality review topic, it's PINK!

I was super disappointed because this case seems perfect
I'd give this zero stars if possible. I ordered this product and after 4 weeks of waiting, amazon was having trouble fulfilling the order so I found the same product used and ordered that to. Lo and behold, both the new and used cases shipped the next day. The "new" case arrived (in the wrong color) and the case was a) too big for the 2013 3rd generation 7" kindle fire, b) the top was permanently bent up and wouldnt shut flat c) the magnetic close did not work at all d) neither the power button or the volume buttons could be operated when the kindle was in the case e) the "smart" on/off feature did not work. I was super disappointed because this case seems perfect, but I still had the used option. Opened that up and gave it a try and still had all of the same issues as the "new" case...except that this time amazon actually sent me a gray one. So this was a 2/2 epic fail which is super disappointing. BUT amazon was very responsive and refunded me right away but I wasted a whole month waiting for this product and it doesnt even work.

Do not purchase this case!
I gave this case a 1 star rating for 2 reasons.1. Due to the poor construction of this case, the placement of the power button on the case constantly presses the power button on the device. Which means that when you put the device into the case, it turns off the device and prevents the device from ever being turned on again. I have to wonder if the builders of the case ever tried to test the case by using it with the device before releasing it to market.2. Shockingly, Amazon has not yet acknowledged that there is CLEARLY an issue with this case since, they sent me a second replacement case which was just as defective as the first one I bought and returned.

Ridiculously overpriced & flimsy
The only good thing I can say about this case is the color. I LOVED the old Marware 360 case I had for my original Kindle; it was solid without being too heavy, my Kindle stayed sturdy no matter which direction it was in (portrait or landscape), and it had the feel of leather. It was comfortable to hold & the auto on/off worked great. Unfortunately, the battery died on my original Kindle & instead of replacing it, I chose to upgrade to the HD. My old Marware case, of course, didn't fit, and apparently Marware doesn't make those cases any more. I ordered this case so I could still take advantage of the different views. I use my Kindle a lot for recipes while I'm cooking, so being able to stand it in portrait mode is a real bonus. I was extremely disappointed when I opened it - the plastic has an extremely cheap feel, it's flimsy, I can't get it to stand properly, and I do not at all feel it would protect my Kindle if accidentally dropped, like my old case did. I can't believe they charge so much for this thing - it's maybe worth $5.Unfortunately, I waited too long to return it & now I'm stuck with it. I would not recommend this cover at all. I'm rather surprised to see so many people gave it good ratings, but, to each his own.
