Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer Lace Up Ankle Brace Sprain Support Black, XL

I spent a lot of time trying to decide between this and a McDavid brace after my last severe ankle sprain - I chose this based on reviews indicating it was easy to get on and off, but provided excellent support and was comfortable. After using it for a few months, I can say all of those things are true. Putting it on is straightforward - undo all the straps, loosen up the laces, and slide your foot in. Tighten and tie the laces, wrap both heel straps around and fasten the velcro, and finish it off with the ankle strap. Takes a minute or so to do, way faster than any taping job. And the laces are long enough that I can get my foot in and out without removing them - I do have to loosen them almost as much as possible though, especially if my ankle is stiff. I am right on the border between sizes - got an XL based on the ankle circumference chart with a measurement of 14, and a 12W or 13 foot also pointed to XL. For times when my ankle is not swollen, there is some extra fabric in there. But the system still tightens down nicely and feels stable, and on the upside I can still get my foot into the brace when my ankle is swollen. If I was buying a second one for routine use I would get a Large. The brace is also comfortable. It restricts motion, but there are no pain points or other irritation, even after playing basketball for a few hours. I was surprised at how well it worked the first time, not it just seems normal. I had to loosen the laces on my shoes a bit to get it in, but no need for bigger shoes. Some people have mentioned smell - I always rinse it out after use, and hang it to dry for a day or so before using again, and never have had an issue. If you will be using it daily, I recommend having two pairs and alternating them. I am working on strengthening the ankle so I don't need it regularly - I use it for basketball but not running, so it isn't a daily thing. Overall, this is an excellent brace, that really helped me to get active more quickly after an injury. I recommend it.

I do like these braces. I like the way they lace up, and they seem to be snug when used. I have a bad history with my ankles playing basketball and soccer. In my 27 years I have broken both of them and seem to sprain them every few months. The orthopedist claims this is due to my "loose joints", whatever the f that means. Anyway, the point is that I have been wearing ankle braces for a long time and the products in general are designed for people with problems like me. The biggest problem I have with this brace is that within 3 months of wearing one, I sprained my ankle badly, which is a pretty rare occurence when wearing an ankle brace. I had the product on correctly and I rolled my ankle playing basketball. The pressure from the brace pushed the injury up to my high ankle which was severely sprained. I guess it protected my lower ankle well. The issue is that by design the ankle support ends too low, this is simply fact and I will not dispute this point. However, it is fixable. Basically you can strap the top main strap higher than it is supposed to go and get additional support. It is not designed like this, but seems to work very well. I have been doing this since my last injury and have been (knock on wood) good to go for the past 6 months. So, definitely good, but not great. This is the brace I used to wear, which I prefer (but I could not find them at the time of my purchase) due to protection and fit. McDavid Ankle with Strap I have large feet (13) and I wonder if that is why the ASO protection was limited, sorry to all you small men out there, you can ignore me.

I know it's not exactly the intended purpose, but it works. Having flat feet means my ankle joints are rolled inward a lot (pronated). This isn't a problem for everyone that has it, but it makes my ankles have chronic pain of various levels. Usually not too bad, but after a day of walking or standing all day, it's debilitating. I discovered that forcibly holding my feet in a normal shape (holding the arch up) results in less pain over time, but that's really hard to do all day every day. So I thought these might help. Boy, do they ever! The very first day I worked in the yard all day long without a bit of pain at the time or the next day (which is usually the worst part). Walking on rough ground used to be awful, a small rock or hole unexpectedly changing my ankle angle side to side would almost bring me to the ground, and it seemed these events accumulated throughout the day into severe pain. With these braces on, that is virtually eliminated. I could probably jog on a gravel road. The ankles cannot get moved enough to hurt. And on top of all that, they're actually comfortable. I don't even want to take them off at the end of the day. Obviously they aren't intended for long term all day use, but I don't see how it could be worse than what I was experiencing. I'll probably end up only wearing them when my ankles are hurting or when I do activities that would otherwise cause them to hurt. I don't know if anyone else has the same problem I do, but I hope my insight helps. I can't recommend them enough.

This product was recommended by the doctor. I ordered the Large originally based on the size measurements. It was a bit too snug around the lower part of my calf. I then purchased the XLarge and the wrap around straps are so long that the velcro cuts my leg. I thought about trimming the straps but it would cut off the loops that you use to pull the straps tight. Unfortunately this product was just not a good fit for me in either size. It is also a bit time consuming to get on correctly.

Mein Sohn trägt diese Bandagen täglich im Training (Basketball) und bei den Spielen. Sie sind sehr stabil und geben, nach mehreren Sprunggelenksverletzungen, die benötigte Stabilität ( je nach Spiel evtl. +Tape). Einzig die Sprungkraft ist etwas eingeschränkt, aber den Preis muss man dann wohl zahlen....

Looks and feels GREAT on the feet - looking forward to try them in the tennis court! Vamoos!

Surprisingly really good and sturdy. This product is very thin and light weight and easily fits in every kind of shoe. And it is surprisingly very stable while leaving and lot of mobility. It's not a stiff rigid support so it's best for not such serious injuries. Great to use when playing sports or walking around a lot. The 2 supportive straps take a little getting used to to put on but no big deal.
