The CR2032 batteries are not that expensive to replace, I think on desertcart, there about £4.00 for a pack. I seen another reviewer say you had to jump through hops to get a replacement though, however I wouldn't personally know as I have never asked the company for a replacement, and hopefully will never have too. Performance: The Salter 1036 Kitchen Scale came incredibly well packed, and feel very well made. It is also very easy to use. There is only two buttons on the front, so anyone should be able to use these scales with ease. Just simply turn the scales on by the on/off button (also zero button as well), place a bowl onto the scales, press the zero button, and then your ready to start weighing you ingredients. Its as simple as that. However if you need an instruction manual, there is one included, which opens up like a poster. The included instructions is very easy to follow and understand, with simple diagrams. As I mentioned before, you can weigh all your ingredients in the same bowl. So every time you want to weigh a new ingredient, just press the zero button and it will put the weight back to zero. So no more needing to weigh everything separately, which means less washing up for me to do afterwards. The scales seem very accurate when weighing different ingredients, and the display is very easy to read (even from afar) with fairly large numbers. The scales are also very easy to clean, as most of the time, they just require a quick wipe over with a soapy cloth. Overall I am incredibly happy with my purchase, and would highly recommend these scales to anyone. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good scales, but display must be read from above *by G***E on 21 December 2013* I've had these scales for four years and they are very good (and they're still going strong) but they're not as good as other Salter models due to the display being readable clearly only from directly above. Yes, they weigh to the nearest gram and are accurate and easy to use. They also display negative weight rather than reverting directly to zero (sounds weird but can be very useful). The most annoying thing to me was the position and angle of the display, which I had not thought about when I bought the scales. If food is weighed directly on the platform, or in a small or steep-sided container, there is no problem. However, to read the display, you need to look at it from above, so if you have a large bowl or medium sized plate that overhangs the display, then it can be very awkward or even impossible to read the display. The shallower the viewing angle, the more the numbers blend with the background, so reading under the shadow of a wide container can be pretty impossible. I've just replaced my scales with a different Salter model Salter Aquatronic Electronic Platform Scale, Black/ Silver which I'm much happier with, as the platform is slightly raised above the read-out display, and the display is slightly angled forwards. I previously had another Salter scale which weighed to the nearest 5g - many years old, but they still work (I just don't use them in the kitchen any more) - and the only reason I bought these was the increased accuracy of weighing to the nearest 1 gram, which I find useful for weighing smaller quantities accurately. These are good scales, and if you take care not to use wide containers or weigh physically bulky items that overhang the display, you will be very happy with them. I've knocked one star off for that reason only. Edit: It's now 2023 and these scales are still working — 14 years after purchase! They are used only intermittently (a few times per month on average), as they were replaced as my used-several-times-a-day kitchen scales, but they still both work and are just as accurate as the day they were purchased (Dec 2009).
