House, M.D.: Season 4

I think that season four turned out better than I anticipated it would
I think that season four turned out better than I anticipated it would. Instead of getting the team back together, the writers brought in a new team. There was an exhaustive process of elimination, of course. Not all forty were going to make it, so House had some fun at their expense as he fired the fellowships. If you've seen the first three seasons, you should be well accustomed to House's ways by now. The only thing that surprised us was his quasi treasure hunt for a particular article of clothing belonging to Dr. Lisa Cuddy. With so many new actors, the writers had to juggle a lot of characters. The number of fellowships was cut down pretty quickly after the first few episodes and allowed the writers to focus on a dozen or so characters. It didn't take all that long for House to come up with his diagnostics team. The three all seem well qualified and one of them seems full of mysteries.Although the writers did a nice job of giving small roles to several of the fellowships along the way, once the diagnostics team was finalized, the original team was rarely seen. They would pop in for a quick scene here and there, but they were never together. It made sense to showcase the new team, but I didn't think Chase and Cameron received very much screen time and character development. Over all I have loved the series and highly recommend it.

Sags a bit in the middle...
...although it starts out strong and ends strong. In season 4 House has recently lost his entire team - Chase, Cameron, and Foreman. He starts out trying to prove that he can do without hiring a diagnostic team, but ultimately he relents. How he chooses that diagnostic team drags down the coherence of the plot through episode nine. House starts out with 30 or so candidates and whittles them down over several episodes. By the time he did pick a team I was just tired of the whole game. The cases, for the most part, just aren't that compelling either as opposed to previous seasons. Oddly enough the original members of House's team wind up back at Princeton Plainsboro Hospital, but only one ends up working for/with him by the end of the season. The other two declare that they are just "Housed out".The best storyline is when Wilson begins to date Amber, one of the last candidates weeded from House's team. The primary reason House got rid of her - she is too much like himself. For Amber it's all about winning. House is puzzled because he assumes Amber is dating Wilson to get back at House for firing her, plus he is somewhat confused by the fact that for the first time Wilson is not dating an emotionally needy girl. Of course he tries to break them up.I'd recommend it because House remains much more interesting than anything else on TV these days, but this season just doesn't rise to the greatness of the first three seasons.

Shorter, but I still want to give it 6 Stars!
A one-of-a-kind series, House, M.D.: Season 4 brings to the screen more everyday encounters of a team of doctors at the Diagnostics department of the Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey under the supervision of Dr. Gregory House.Hugh Laurie, Jennifer Morrison, Jesse Spencer, Omar Epps, Lisa Edelstein, Robert Sean Leonard, and the rest of this EXTRAORDINARY cast, have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are outstanding to say the least. All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100% and it really shows (the chemistry is AMAZING)! Very well written and very well presented, the series is without a doubt guaranteed to provide more than just a few thrills, not to mention a few laughs and tears. House, M.D. does a great job of describing people's different personalities, fears, and the problems they face. It is all about life, death, human relations, hope, pain, and inner strength. The acting, the setting, the plot (and subplots), the dialogues, and the music (!), which are just wonderful! It is indeed a rarity when an amazing series such as this comes by.Moreover, even though season 4 is shorter by eight episodes due to the writers' strike, you will not be disappointed in the least as far as quality is concerned. In short, House, M.D. is a series definitely worth watching and one to seriously consider adding to your movie collection (if you haven't done so already)! KEEP'EM COMING!!!

A True Original - This Will Change Who You Are
Without a doubt, the best medical drama ever on television, or even on film. It skillfully combines precision and unusual diagnostic medicine with the Human Equation. Other medical โshowsโ typically neglect the medical aspect, and focus on the soap opera love interests of the hospital staff; but House delivers Medical School level academics, along with the drama seen in only the best of literature - the unexpected, realistic, and non-linear events we all have in our lives, rather than the mundane writing of hacks who are pandering to what the TV executives think will sell the products of their advertisers. House is tantamount to The Sopranos, in its approach and methodology, and the true swings from the gritty to anguish and from transient humor back to despair, rarely - if ever - seen in the media, yet ever present in the daily reality of life. House makes the so-called โReality Showsโ look stupider and more contrived than they actually are. House hinges somewhere between a documentary and a true masterpiece of the art of film. This is not a โmust see,โ or a โsummer blockbuster,โ but a treasure that will reside in the archives of the consciousness of all who embrace it.

House Remodelled
Anybody who has seen the first three seasons of House has come to expect the sarcasm and caustic humour that Hugh Laurie has brought to the role and this season continues in the same vein and so won't disappoint on that front.I was concerned with how they would continue the series following the end of the third season with the resignation of all his staff. So, thankfully with this season they have taken the chance to change direction and in the most part it works. Series regulars Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer are reduced to recurring characters which is disappointing but it gives the chance to bring in a string of new characters as House plays the game of recruiting his new staff; while losing his fragile grip on reality even more than usual.I didn't enjoy it as much as the first three seasons. This could be due to the writer's strike of that year leading to it being cut short (only 16 episodes compared to the 22-24 of previous ones) and the story rushed. Still excellent television though.

best house since season one
BEST HOUSE SINCE SERIES ONE! this is so light and new! brand new. i felt that new characters would spoil the plot but i havent missed chase and co. at all although they are still floating around in some scenes. this series is so upbeat and interesting and once again house is onn top form, it was a bit depressing to watch him have his ego bruised previously and become so devious i began to side with cuddy and wilson. i notice in this series he suddenly gets much healthier but i let that slide and there is less emphasis on the pill popping aspect of his character and more of a contrast in his ever increasing interest in patients. comparing his bedside manner to season one and he's almost an angel lol ... enjoy

Well pleased.
Sent me an email, apologising for running late, but in fact it was well early. As described by seller, though I have yet to play it. Only then will I really know if it just looks good.

The best series of them all
I am a House fan, so this was always going to be a good review, but I can confidently say that this is the best if the seven series available on dvd. There is a strong focus on humour and the whole format is refreshed by the arrival of some great new characters. As usual, we learn more about the main character and get to see how he responds to a number of different personalities in his work space.Highly recommended for all House fans. If you're new to the series, I would try to watch series 1 first.

Trust me here...
I won't go over the same ground as other reviewers here. Suffice it to say that if you are already familiar with the characters, the last two episodes (House's Head and Wilson's Heart) are the most compelling and astonishing TV you will see anywhere. They repay the purchase of this DVD many times over. Arguably the most brilliant episodes from a drama series I can remember seeing anywhere - brilliantly shot, scripted and acted. If you don't watch another drama ever again, watch the end of series 4 of House! :)
