Great for safety and communication underwater
My wife and I have both used these "quackers" for years and they work great underwater. We have a code: One quack for something interesting, two quacks for something you really ought to come see, three quacks for "get over here now, I need help", and four quacks for "don't bother, I'm calling my divorce lawyer".

Great safety feature
I have used the Dive Alert since they were first introduced. In ocean diving, it is fairly easy to get separated from the group especially in a current. Silent surface attention getting devices may not be sufficient to attract assistance. This device makes a very LOUD noise to draw attention on the surface and can be life saving. I recommend it highly. I also carry a visual device (blow-up red noodle) and combined, you cannot be missed. Be sure to get the real Dive Alert. (I used a substitute once and it did not work in the water.) I will not dive without mine even though I do not really need it often. Hopefully, you will not need to use it, but, if you do, you will be really glad you ad it!

It works!
Ummm yup it's loud and obnoxious! Love it.. A bit bulky, but so is an air horn on a truck!

it does what it says
it works fine. i don't think it's the best on the market. it seems the hose fittings aren't as tight as i would like and the dual mode is a little flaky. i can signal friends underwater with the first mode of operation (press button halfway). once it's wet, it takes a lot of presses to "prime" it so it'll emit the sharp piercing high-pitch wail that'll signal a ship at surface. fortunately, air consumption is reasonable when operating. it takes about 150lbs of air to get it primed and working again.pros: underwater operation is great. can signal other divers just before they leave visual range - even when they're wearing hoods.cons: doesn't clear right away after it's been submerged (perhaps my unit is faulty?)

Thought is would be better. Large and takes up a lot of room on your hose.
