Huge opinel fan, great knife
I own dozens of opinel products. I got this for foraging and daily use. Works well as a box cutter as well as a paring blade. Handle material is lovely. I highly recommend any of their knives and the size 6,7 and 8 really appeal to me for daily use. These are not the world's most sophisticated, perfectly crafted works of art. But the simple old world charm combined with a light weight make for a great daily use pocket knife. You might find this particular blade shape very useful for a variety of tasks

Great value
Excellent tool for woodcarving. The blade lock is superior. The steel is very good and can be sharpened to crazy sharp. However you need a leather strop to keep it sharp.Nevertheless, excellent carving knife that fits in a pocket.

a nice pocket whittler - sharp and safe
I've been a fan of Opinel knives for years but didn't know about this model. I prefer short blades for whittling and woodcarving but even the Opinel No. 6 was longer than I like, although it is an excellent, light pocket knife. This version with its 1.5 inch blade and mostly flat edge fits the bill. It came sharp and being carbon steel is easy to keep sharp with little effort. It's almost weightless and folds down to about four inches. That provides enough handle for a comfortable grip when whittling. An unexpected bonus was being able to push the blade using pressure against the locking collar which is much more comfortable than pushing against the back of the blade. And, of course, the locking collar is fool-proof and totally secure. I wouldn't use this to carve hardwoods but it does fine with basswood, pine or butternut. It is quite a value.

Opinel
If you like old fashioned you'll like this. I bought this model to carve with but it works well for it's intended use. The blade is small and better for detail work but I really liked the nostalgic look. They've been making these for a long long time and the design is pretty simplistic. Nice to have at least one around the house.

High quality, specialized knife!
This is the kind of European, high quality product one wishes were more common today. It feels good in the hand and the blade safely slices through the tough outer skin of chestnuts prior to roasting. It looks to last forever and is beautifully made. Rather costly, but seems entirely worth it.

Makes Easy Work of Chestnut Skins
This is an excellent little knife to cut chestnut skins in order to roast them. I've had a chestnut tree on our property since we've moved here and just this year decided to try to actually use the chestnuts instead of letting the deer have them. This Opinel chestnut knife has done a great job of slicing through the tough skin of the chestnut so that they'll burst open when roasting. The hawksbill blade is perfect for cutting the skins and I think this knife does a better job than a paring knife since the blade is shorter with a sharper drop than a paring knife. And I don't feel like this will be as likely to cut me than a paring knife. If you're looking to start roasting chestnuts, this is the knife for you!

I love this knife!!!!
My only regret is that I don't have more reasons to use it. This is such a nice little knife, a true pleasure to use and carry. And at this price there's nothing against it. You could use it for vine pruning, kitchen, garden, etc. In fact, I like it so much, I can overlook that I almost cut off my trigger finger with an Opinel knife as a kid (freak accident). I'll probably always carry one, now... I like it that much. Get it!

safe to use
I purchased this knife for my husband as a chestnut knife, but I used it yesterday to release a clove from a garlic bulb and have decided that it is now my garlic knife. Small knife, easy to open and close, blade is secure when opened so no mishaps, sharp, curved shaped particularly adapted to shape of garlic clove.

Pfiffig und nĂŒtzlich
Eine sehr gute scharfe kleine Klinge fĂŒr bewegliche Messerarbeiten. Obst entkernen, leichte Schnitzereien oder auch mal schnell was abschneiden.
