My dogs are now trained, even when these are removed from the furniture they stay off!
I LOVE these! We live in the country and have a dog door to a fenced back yard. Some of the area is a little woodsy and the dogs not only come in muddy at times but also covered in burs from time to time. And I HATE dirty dogs on the furniture. I tried training them as puppies to stay off the furniture but the kids would sneak them on so they learned that if I was not around they could get up and sleep on the furniture. I can't tell you how many times I have come home and had to wash the slip covers because a muddy dog got on the sofa while I was away. Then I found this! I wasn't sure how well it would work so I just bought one for a single chair at 1st. I put the battery in and put it on the chair they most got into. With in minutes of going to bed that night I heard a dog yelp, the other dog got it when I was in the office the next day. One time each was all it took that I am aware of for my dogs. I can take the mat off and forget to put it on for days and the dogs don't get into the chair. When I bought one for the sofa I didn't have another 9 volt so I took the 9v from the chair mat. So the chair one hasn't even had power, and the dogs will not get in that chair. It's amazing. We went all through the spring when my backyard is a mud hole and not once was their muddy prints on any of my furniture. I think because they are a bit see through and my slip covers are white the dogs can't see very well if they are on the furniture or not so they don't even try to get on when the mats are off. They have been off the furniture for more then a week before and the dogs still did not get on the sofa and chairs. To celebrate I went out and bought myself a new chair, I went with a patterned slip cover this time, but still a white base and you can see from the photo how hard it is to see. I usually put a pillow over the box and you can barley tell it's there. The family has sat on them many times, but I got them during the cold season so everyone has had long pants on when they were sat on. They notice but sit on it a while before they remember why they are getting a tingle. I'm waiting for the summer when someone sits on it with shorts and bare skin hits it. It's shock isn't much more then a good static electricity shock but it's quite startling.

ZAP!!!
I bought two of these for my cat who would not stay off furniture or quit using the furniture as scratching posts. Best buy ever!!I put it on the couch and waited. Little bugger jumped up on the couch and landed on the mat, then proceeded to jump about 5 feet in the air when he got zapped, wish I videoed it, funniest thing ever!! He was sleeping on my bed while I was at work, I'd come home to find the bed covered in cat hair. Ugh. Did the same thing, laid the mats out on my bed and came home to see one mat had been moved, no cat hair on my bed really since (he's done it a few times, I just put the mats back on the bed for a day or two and he's good for a few weeks again). Then he started spraying in my son's bathroom, on the mat in front of the toilet (if he'd go IN the toilet, wouldn't be a problem! lol) after weeks of cleaning up after him and the stench, I tried a mat in front of the toilet. It stopped.I've also used this for my dogs, whenever people come over, they go crazy and rush to meet people at the door, even though I am trying to teach them to stay away until people are in the house and come say hi to them. I have put the mats near the door, they step on them, yelp and go back to the living room to wait for people to come it. It's nice having guests be able to take their shoes off without worrying about dogs jumping all over them and licking them while I'm trying to corral them into another room.My little dog has taken to peeing on a chair in my room for whatever reason from time to time. I put the mats across my doorway, he got zapped a couple times, no more pee in my room. For those who say it's inhumane, it's not. I've stepped on them when I've had them across my doorway first thing in the morning, half asleep, heading to the shower and it doesn't hurt at all, just shocks you (much like licking a 9V battery), my little 5 year old niece likes playing with them when she comes over, she likes how they 'tickle' her. I have used all kinds of pet sprays to keep them away from areas and they just don't work. They work for the first few minutes, while wet (and stink to high heaven) and then they're useless. I had all kinds of tinfoil, double sticky tape, ect on couches, counters, etc... for the cat and my house looked like an alien spaceship trying to keep him off things he wasn't supposed to be on (like the time I caught him on the counter eating shrimp I had thawing out. I can leave food out now, he stays off the counters!). At one point, I was buying rolls and rolls of tinfoil to cover couches, chairs, spare beds, etc to keep the cat off things, it was ridiculous, to the point where I was seriously considering rehoming my cat.Now I just have to lay the mats out and don't even have to turn them on, both the cat and the dogs see it, and steer clear. Best buy ever, they have paid for themselves many times over, and in the long run, way cheaper than all the rolls of tinfoil and all the bottles of pet repellent I bought! I have both batteries and adapters for mine, if it's needed close to a plug, then I plug it in, if it's needed somewhere where a plug isn't easily accessible, then I use battery, but like I said, I rarely have to even turn them on now, if the pets see one of the mats, they know to stay away.

PetSafe ScatMat Pet Training Medium 30 X 16
I purchased 2 scat mats to keep my dog out of the kitchen when I'm cooking. I bought the 30" X 16" scat mats. I installed the 9 volt battery on both mats and put them down blocking the 2 entry ways. He walked on it, jumped from the shock and I thought, great this is going to work. He then proceeded to jump over the mats whenever he wanted back in the kitchen. So, the moral of the story is, you need to buy the scat mat in a size that they can't jump over.A great idea but buy in a larger size so it will actually deter them from coming into whatever area you want to keep them out of.

Really works, but monopolizes your horizontal surfaces
I keep it on a shelf where the cats like to climb to reach the window, knocking over everything in their path. I can't use that shelf for anything with any metal in it or the brain box constantly triggers and would surely kill the battery in no time. The cats learned within an hour not to hop on that shelf and haven't returned in months. The reaction to being tickled by the shock was a 'startle launch' - don't keep anything valuable nearby as it runs the risk of being damaged by a launched cat. My only qualm is the trigger sensitivity detects almost anything I put on the mat (lots of metal in my stuff), so the shelf has to stay clear, or I have to risk shocking myself picking up the stuff I stored on there. I keep the unit on level 1 (of 3) and it's more than enough to be truly uncomfortable without being damaging. Outdoor cats or bigger dogs might need setting 2 or 3 from the thicker paw pads.

Best 50 bucks i spent.
Originally purchased for the counter but it didn't fit the shape. But we found another purpose...Our young cat had gotten into the habit of scratching madly at our daughter's bedroom door at 3am and galloping happily away when I would get up to shoo her. This was repeated often and was causing a bit of rage. The mat is put in front of the bedroom door every night and has stopped the scratch game and made every human more well rested and happy. We also booby-trapped each other with it and it was hilarious.

It works
Worked great on my dog that likes to open the front door. She has scratched the wood so bad. But a couple of jolts & she leaves it alone. My other 2 dogs must of got zapped too as they have to be coaxed now to come in that door. Only one time that it didn’t seem to work. Dog stood on it and nothing happened. Very happy with it

The only reason I'm keeping it is because it looks better than having a sheet of tinfoil taped to the ...
The performance of this mat is really hit and miss. There are lots of times where its difficult to even get it to activate. We used to have our cat pawing at our bedroom door every morning at 5am and previously used a sheet of tinfoil to keep him away. All it took was one zap from the mat and we've never had an issue since. The mat being there is deterrent enough, even with how sketchy it is on activating. The only reason I'm keeping it is because it looks better than having a sheet of tinfoil taped to the door frame.
